Short on cash for a ticket, he trudges on foot across the fields, savoring the fresh air. Suddenly, he encounters a suspicious old woman—a witch. After a short but tense conversation, his nerves snap: Foma swings and strikes—she falls headfirst onto a stone and goes still. The local men, her so-called "relatives," catch Foma and pass sentence: atone for your sin by standing three nights in the abandoned church by her coffin, lest her soul awaken and bring calamity upon the village. Night after night, the witch revives, taunting with riddles, terrifying with visions, and luring him into survival games. Foma must choose: stay within the protective circle, flee, or take a risk? One wrong step—and he'll burn in flames, drown in the abyss, or turn to stone. And ahead lies a meeting with Viy himself, the ancient judge of the dead.
