Who could imagine robots making as big a screw-up of a company’s management as the board of OpenAI? It takes human beings to deliver this sort of chaos: three chief executives in three days, the staff and investors in open revolt and the conflicts in this company plain for all to see. As Silicon Valley soap operas go, little beats Friday’s firing of co-founder boss Sam Altman from the home of ChatGPT and the mayhem it’s unleashed. Yet wasn’t this sort of moment waiting to happen? If it wasn’t for the tensions between the commercial potential of artificial intelligence and the existential risks, there would have been no need for Rishi Sunak’s Bletchley Park jamboree. As one of the Bosses said: We need AI to keep those idiots under watch. Humans ARE just too dumb to make an informed decision. Because it means we would have to read, understand things!!!!
