Hello all...

By mistake I lost the key to remove the encryption of the external hard drive. So Im about to format the disk and loose al the info but whats the best way to do it so I can give a chance to a recovery software program to try to restore the information.

Any suggestions for software will be appreiated.

Thank you!

Try Minitool or Paragon or Eassos(DiskGenius) or Stellar or Aomei or EaseUS. All have similar functionality to recover if lost key.

Sample Guide - Minitool: https://www.minitool.com/data-recovery/bitlocker-drive-encryption-recovery.html

Depends how exactly it was encrypted. If for example was (high level and full) Bitlocker then zero chance without key.
