Claim simple code could crash Windows 2000 and up

Researchers claim to have found a critical vulnerability in Windows that jeopardises all Windows operating systems from 2000 onwards.

Server software firm 2X Software says it has found a simple software vulnerability that could be used in denial of service attacks against the last decade's worth of Windows operating systems.

"This is a major problem with potentially tens of millions of devices at risk. Such a vulnerability leaves users open to Denial of Service attacks which can be devastating "“ imagine your company servers and PCs being restarted remotely every few minutes,"said Paul Gafa, chief technology officer of 2X Software.

'As it affects all the latest versions of the operating system, I expect Microsoft to patch it very quickly. They have already been informed."

According to the company Windows 2000, Windows XP (and XP Embedded), Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 are all vulnerable.

Microsoft has reportedly said that it is aware of the problem and is checking its veracity.
