OPPO unveils the Find X3 Pro with new design, dual 50MP cameras, SD888, 120Hz AMOLED screen

Today, OPPO finally took the wraps off of its flagship Find X3 Pro, after teasing some of the upcoming cool features last week. And indeed, there's a lot to unpack here.

First up is an all-new design, using a single piece of glass across the entire back of the handset. It's one continuous curve, and OPPO says that it's inspired by space itself. The firm also talked up the engineering that it took to create that's admittedly an impressive piece of glass to make. Over 2,000 control points were mapped, and each single piece of glass takes 40 hours to make.

The finished product comes in at 8.26mm thick and 193g, and it comes in both glossy and matte finishes. There's a Gloss Black, which is the unit that OPPO sent us, and there's also a matte Blue option. It's also IP68 water resistant, which is fantastic news for those that worry about water damage.

The display was one of the things that OPPO teased last week. It's got a 6.7-inch QHD 120Hz AMOLED screen, which is already going to be one of the best around with those specs. But OPPO is also promising that it's a true billion-color display with 10-bit color, offering 64 times as much color as an eight-bit display. It supports HDR10+, and it has 8,192 levels of brightness, maxing out at 1,300 nits.

The firm is also promising billion-color photography. It has dual 50-megapixel sensors for the wide and ultra-wide cameras, coming in at f/1.8 and f/2.2, respectively. There's also a 13MP 5x zoom lens, and a 3MP 60x lens, the latter of which is meant for close-up shots, and it has a ring around it.

Both of the main sensors are Sony IMX766, so OPPO says this should lead to having color consistency across all cameras, something that other OEMs have struggled with. With most smartphones, you'll see big differences between the different lenses in a multi-lens camera.

OPPO has a bunch of cool AI features as well, such as AI Palettes. This actually lets you create a filter for your image, from another image, and it can create some pretty interesting results. There's also a new RAW+ format, which adds HDR to RAW images.

And of course, it packs a ton of power, using Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 888 chipset. And with that power, it's got a 4,500mAh battery that supports 65W wired charging, 30W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. You'll also find 12GB RAM and 256GB of storage under the hood.

All of that comes to like with ColorOS 11.2, which packs new features like OPPO Relax 2.0, a customizable AOD, and more. OPPO should be detailing pricing and availability soon.

OPPO Find X3 Pro unboxing and first impressions

1615411184_f9_story.jpg

Today, OPPO launched its Find X3 Pro, and we've got our hands on one. This phone is no slouch either, packing some impressive specs. Right out of the gate, it's got a Snapdragon 888, 12GB RAM, and 256GB of on-board storage. But of course, that's the easy part.

OPPO is promising some big camera improvements, using dual 50MP Sony IMX766 sensors, so you actually won't be able to tell the difference between wide and ultra-wide lenses when it comes to color accuracy. It also comes with a 13MP 5x zoom lens, and a 60x macro lens, which is interesting to say the least. It also supports HDR video recording at 4K, and if you want to go all-in on resolution, it supports 8K as well.

But a big part of the story is the design. This handset is totally unique, something that's always nice to see. Uniqueness is rare in smartphone design, and if you don't believe me, just look at how many phones have had the old rectangle with rounded corners camera over the past year. The Find X3 Pro uses a single piece of curved glass for the entire back of the device, and OPPO says that each piece takes 40 hours to make. It's pretty impressive, and I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would.

The other key thing that OPPO talked about was its billion-color display. It's a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen at QHD resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, so it's pretty great.
