funkyy 3,144
Right, I've checked all the titles/descriptions of the sub forums and I hope I am posting this in the correct place (that'll be a first!!) The other day while playing around with the program "Everything" I found a lot of Python py and pyc files that had "porn" in the titles. Since I haven't installed Python in my system and I don't know anything about Python I deleted these files (640kb). I noticed that many of them were related to Format Factory which I found strange. Anyway, I checked a few times since the deletion and they were still gone. Then today I updated my portable Format Factory to the latest version...and guess what I found when I checked with "Everything"?....yes, a whole load of py and pyc files with "porn" in the title!! Can someone explain why these files are appearing and are connected with Format Factory? (screenshot link attached). https://imgur.com/a/e4V6Ifu Hi aum..it's ok for you to laugh, but if my wife sees that on my computer it'll be hasta la vista Funkyy...and I'll be terminated!!! DLord 380
Wow, that's really weird to be honest. Are you sure you are downloading the Format Factory portable file from a legit source? Would it be possible to share some of the actual files? Specially couple of .py files? Sylence

DLord, there were 30 of these files the second time and I deleted them yesterday. Then I rebooted to see if they came back, but it was all clear. I started Format Factory again to see if they re-appeared, but they didn't...at least not yet!! I'll keep checking to see if there is a recurrence of this. I don't remember exactly where I downloaded my Win 7 installation disc from....but I was always careful to avoid "dodgy" places.
jayballs 48
Quote guess what I found when I checked with "Everything If your impressed by that use shellbag analyzer from privazer (it's portable) https://privazer.com/en/download-shellbag-analyzer-shellbag-cleaner.php It'll show all the crap you downloaded and files that been created. funkyy
Crucible 306
What is the source or download link? It appears someone added porn files to the app. 🔗🤔 funkyy

I have just checked again with "Everything" and so far, no more of these porn.py files have re-appeared. I also put "python.exe" in Everything and it appears that FormatFactory and VideoProc are the sources (?). I don't know anything about coding/programming, but I guess these two programs have been written in Python. As you can see from the following 2 screenshots there's a load of Python pyc files on my computer, 2,474 in the second image!! Should I uninstall these two portable progs (FormatFactory and VideoProc)? https://imgur.com/avkTLqy https://imgur.com/NMTygBZ Edited January 26 by funkyy

jayballs 48
My idea is if you don't feel comfortable with it or not sure where you got it from, just delete it and get it from a proper source funkyy

It's possible that is a version that I downloaded, but I'm not 100% sure 'cos I update my portables regularly from a few sources. Meanwhile I have been investigating and I think I have found the source!! 1) I uninstalled any portable programs that had Python files (Deemix, PDF Arranger, VideoProc and FormatFactory). 2) Then I checked my system using Everything...all clear except 1 Python license file in TOR which I assume is safe. 3) I then re-installed the portable versions of Deemix, VideoProc and FormatFactory. 4) I then searched "Python" on Everything and 30 PORN Python files appeared, related to FormatFactory. 5) So I guess the portable version of FormatFactory from ElChupacabra's site is the culprit. 6) Finally, ran a search with Everything with "porn"....all clear again. Screenshots:- 1) https://imgur.com/BdKe2td 2) https://imgur.com/Eu9B2WV 3) https://imgur.com/BdKe2td Update:- I downloaded and installed portable FormatFactory from Diakov's site (Foxx apps version) and searched "porn" in Everything and the same 30 porn py files appear again!! DLord 380
Nowadays it's normal to have python files on your system. Even some programs install python itself on your machine to function. The only way to really find out what those python files does is to see and analyze the actual file in .py format (text format python code). In general, as most portable apps are re-packed by third parties, if not possible to download from the original developer's site, try to download from legit sites. Don't want to advertise for any specific site, but if you look around you will find legit sites that have been distributing portable apps for many years with good reputation. funkyy

Solution TrojanK 963 Posted January 27 Solution Share Posted January 27 40 minutes ago, funkyy said: WHY are these files downloaded with FormatFactory? I mean, what exactly is their purpose? Format Factory comes with video downloader. There should be other .py files present in that location which are used for this purpose. I think it's a feature. funkyy

I've used a few Diakov portables and I remember that I almost clicked on one of the options on the installer GUI..but I hesitated because it was in Russian....later I found it was a "change your homepage" option. I always think twice or three times before clicking on something that I have even a small doubt about. Crucible

7even 100
So what are those files exactly? Some kind of redirecting? Maybe you should try to open it with notepad++ to see the code inside. And please do it while your wife shopping at grocery store. 🙄 funkyy and DLord

But as Rudy5 and TrojanK pointed out it appears they are related to the inbuilt downloader that is part of Format Factory. And there was me thinking my wife was secretly downloading porn, tut tut.
