chlorophyll
As of the start of this year, Internet Explorer 8 is on top of the world, well, at least the browser world. At the end of January 2010, IE8 became the world’s most-used browser, according to statistics released by Internet metrics company Net Applications. However, Internet Explorer 8 is far from dominating the worldwide market as it is followed “uncomfortably” close by version 3.5 of Mozilla Firefox. Still, usage statistics from Net Application indicate that IE8 has managed, for the first time ever to gain a larger audience than either of its two predecessors, IE7 and IE6. The fact that users seem to be moving away from Internet Explorer 6, dumping the decade-old browser for the much newer version is not only good news for Microsoft, but for the world. The “report shows that Internet Explorer 8 is not only the most popular browser on Windows with 27.9% usage share, but that it now has 25.6% of market share across all OS’s on a worldwide-weighted usage share basis (data provided by Net Applications). We launched just less than a year ago, so it’s both humbling and thrilling to see so many people choose our product so quickly – making it the most popular browser of choice worldwide,” revealed Brandon LeBlanc, Windows Communications manager on the Windows Client Communications Team.Firefox 3.5 is credited with a market share of 17.08% which makes it the third most-used browser worldwide, following Internet Explorer 6. But fact is that the gap between almost a year-old releases of Internet Explorer and Firefox is extremely close. While Firefox 3.5 has yet to overtake Internet Explorer 6 which dropped as low as 20.00% at the end of the past month, it does have a larger market share than Internet Explorer 7, which accounts only for 14.53% of the market. Both IE6 and IE7 have lost market share, with users upgrading to Internet Explorer 8. In March 2009, when IE8 was released to web, IE7’s market share was as high as 35.15%, with IE6 at 31.38%. Both releases have since then seen their audience move away, both to IE8 and to rival browsers, including Firefox. IE6 suffered a severe blow in January 2010 because of a highly mediatized security vulnerability which was exploited by Chinese-based hackers in attacks targeting Google and other US-based companies. As a direct consequence, governmental organizations, including from Germany and France, and Google itself advised IE6 users to dump and upgrade to a more recent release of IE8 or to a rival browser. CODYQX4
It's a shame that more people use IE6 than FFI use both IE8 and FF, and IE8 isn't really that bad, especially if you have ever used IE6.I dread walking into any place that has only IE6. Thankfully FF can be made portable and run off USB drive.

HX1
oh this is a joke , isn't it ?!i think FF is far better than IE even with the Memory consumption prob, But we should take in consideration the typical type of users , Who wants to do their job or surf by any mean possible How about if mozilla makes OS ?! ^_^how about mozilla makes a TORRENT CLIENT named BITFIRE??? They don't need to you can turn Firefox into a BT client..The one thing that keeps me rating the right browser for me is the ability to become what I want it to and even make it faster than comes standard ( which I might add that companies are bound to RFC regulation on what they can release.. which governs what areas they should be striving to achieve at to make their browsers faster.. then the rest is up to use and what we mod )Having browser that can readily adjust to the everyday behavioral characteristics and functions that would apply at the time and do an excellent job at it is key... I use/have 5 installed right with 2 of them actually battling it out on which one gets to stay .. Safari and Iron.. IE8 is good I think with a few simple changes.. I think startup time should be a little better.. and that it should a little more code compliant.. Firefox is great but I am still wishing for a little better memory control on its won.. and technically looking for that out of all of them.. I mean initiating anything on them usage goes way up.. just stupid.. It shouldn't take that much for the code to do what it needs to do.. Opera seems good but is slow.. no matter what I do Opera has a good day and then operationally ( without caches as I always test ) it just sits there.. but a good browser nevertheless.. Safari same thing.. good ( if I have the right video card I would have some cool extras.. ) but it has become a browser that not a lot of people even talk about anymore.. I think that it can be said that Chrome and Iron have trump carded the WebKit browser idea... but that was to be expected.. and while everyone screams and carries on about Chrome.. I still stay with Iron on that note. So Iron and Safari though vastly different.. are almost fighting for the WebKit spot on my system right now..I think it is going to take trust for any ground to be gained by any of the browsers from first time Internet users and individuals who are choosing to switch browsers for a better program. Over the next years they will have to embrace HTML 5.. and should be designed to keep all personal information safe. When it comes down to the fact that a customer has enough control over a browser that they can immediately change its behavior to have 0 day coverage of a vulnerability.. before a month passes or weeks .. that it takes for the development team ( all due respect ) to get to it... When you have the element unveiled to the client.. or customer.. its a 'no-brainer'.. it offers proactive stances... it empowers them.. I think in the long run those who are informed will be better prepared.. better protected... and those individuals will truly be the ones who are governing which browser is the real winner.. ( definitely not individuals bent on data mining..LOL..or not even trying to be able to render a page correctly.. point being that today's digital environment ) Some things can be very successful.. others can fail miserably with the wrong goal on hand..and quite a few factors can be so totally involved in stating the effectiveness of a strategy... Administrator DKT27 Posted February 3, 2010 Administrator Share Posted February 3, 2010 How about Mozilla starting their own forums? Oh wait they already have it. :PHonestly, they are experts in browsers and mail software, they would probably concentrate towards it at the moment. ;)
*dcs18
Many malicious codes use vulnerabilities through the IE activeX (which is not implemented in Firefox.)
HX1
Right well.. the only way to do that would to actually target users of the WMP plugin... the extra plugin that will allow you to access these controls through Firefox.. Like embedding a player with visualizations .. so then you don't really have direct vulnerability but have a sort of chained method.. It isn't natively supported by FF, however.. ( and I don't know if its even possible to target WMP in this manner ) so while the point is true it isn't completely impossible.

They even have a calendar of schedule with deadlines for updates & upgrades. Deadlines which they meet most of the time.
harpua
I like the way FF has so many extentions/addons and the way I can customize it to my personal preference. IE8 is a big improvement over previous versions but I still vastly prefer FF and only use IE8 when forced to e.g., when I hit a site that does not work well with FF which fortunately is pretty rare.
