kasper
The Scottish actor died peacefully in his sleep overnight, his son said. Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90, his family have said. Sir Sean's son Jason told the BBC his father died peacefully in his sleep overnight while in the Bahamas, having been "unwell for some time". A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor." Connery, from Fountainbridge in Edinburgh, also starred in The Hunt for Red October, Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade and The Rock in a career that spanned 50 years. He won an Oscar for his role as a Chicago cop in 1987's The Untouchables, two Bafta awards and three Golden Globes. News of his death was met by a flood of tributes. Nicola Sturgeon tweeted: "I was heartbroken to learn this morning of the passing of Sir Sean Connery. Our nation today mourns one of her best loved sons. "Sean was born into a working class Edinburgh family and through talent and sheer hard work, became an international film icon and one of the world's most accomplished actors." Actor Hugh Jackman said: "I grew up idolizing Sean Connery. A legend on screen, and off." Star Trek actor George Takei said: "Sean Connery was a movie legend, even far into his golden years. Our strongest Bonds were formed by him, and he was Untouchable. He passed today at age 90, a suave hero to the end." Gary Lineker said: "Shaken and, on this occasion, stirred to hear that Sir Sean Connery has passed away. Had the pleasure of playing golf with him on a couple of occasions. "A real character and for me, the best Bond. James Bond should be immortal. RIP." Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli paid tribute to Sir Sean Connery in a statement: "We are devastated by the news of the passing of Sir Sean Connery. "He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words - 'The name's Bond... James Bond.' "He is undoubtedly largely responsible for the success of the film series and we shall be forever grateful to him." Connery, who celebrated his 90th birthday in August, was knighted by the Queen at Holyrood Palace in 2000 New Year Honours for services to film drama. He won legions of fans as Bond, often coming top of fan-voted polls thanks to his debonair manner and wry humour. He made his on-screen debut in Dr No in 1962. This was followed by From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever. Pinewood Studios, home of the Bond film franchise, said in a statement: "We are extremely saddened to hear of the passing of the legendary Sir Sean Connery. "Memories of this outstanding actor and his unforgettable embodiment of superspy James Bond will forever be cherished at Pinewood." A real tough chap in life but a gentleman also, and leaves a lasting legacy particularly with James Bond. RIP Sean Connery.

funkyy
He was one of the all time greats. Although of course he's most famous for the Bond movies, Indiana Jones, The Untouchables etc, one of his lesser celebrated movies was "The Offence" where he showed his acting ability as a cop having a breakdown. He was more than an action man...he was a true actor.🏴🏴🏴🏴
