Facebook announces ban on anti-vaccination ads

As part of a broader effort to promote public health

On Tuesday, Facebook announced a new policy banning ads that discourage the use of vaccines. Timed to the beginning of flu season, the new policy is also aimed at the ongoing proliferation of anti-vaccine groups on Facebook and growing skepticism about forthcoming vaccines for COVID-19.

“Our goal is to help messages about the safety and efficacy of vaccines reach a broad group of people, while prohibiting ads with misinformation that could harm public health efforts,” the company said in a blog post. “We don’t want these ads on our platform.”

There are still several ads from anti-vaccination groups currently running on the platform, but Facebook says it will begin enforcing the new policy “over the next few days.” The anti-vaccination groups themselves will continue to be allowed on the platform — organic or unpaid content discouraging vaccination is still permitted, per Facebook’s platform rules.

Alongside the new ads policy, Facebook will actively promote vaccination through a public information campaign, and direct users to vaccination sites using its preventative health tool.

It’s part of a string of recent crackdowns from Facebook. On Monday, the platform banned Holocaust denial content after years of mounting criticism. The previous week, the platform strengthened its ban against QAnon-linked content, and announced plans for a complete blackout on US political ads in the days following the election.

The move also comes at a delicate time for the ongoing pandemic. Public trust in a COVID-19 vaccine has fallen to alarmingly low levels, perhaps driven by President Trump’s frequent references to an imminent vaccine to be released before Election Day. In May, roughly 70 percent of Americans said they would take a vaccine if it became available; by September, that number had dropped to 50 percent.

Progressives   cheer  when  Facebook  ban something  yesterday they ban Holocaust   Denial , But when the goverment  took down some websites spreading disinformation they cry about censorship  . It's all disinformation  and its all censorship!!!  Hypocrites  Much? How can you take people like this serious ? :lmao:

The problem with Facebook  is  there a private site with public ipo  that make there  own rules just like this site  has  rules ,  they launched  16  years ago  after 16 years of disinformation they going  to do something now ?  So I dont take them  serious ether.  it should of never been allowed to start off with. There investors must be fussing  now or something ?  When YouTube  ban  things is because there sponsors  drop  them  that buy there ads for being a shit show.  Its not because they care about ethics because none of these sites ever  have . it's motivated  because of a  loss of profit or a fear of it .

Every time  Facebook  faces antitrust they ban things to put on a show just like they did when they got fined 5 billion by the US goverment for misleading  ads that  were from data harvested from Facebook users . then the next time they get in  trouble seems  who they  ban is back and they ban them again .It seems like a big show. there Drama Mamas  worse than a soap opera.   :tooth:

Facebook bans anti-vaccine ads, but not organic misinformation

  • Ads that advocate for or against legislation or government policies around vaccines — including a COVID-19 vaccine — are still allowed."

The big picture: Americans' willingness to get a coronavirus vaccine dropped to 50% in late September, a dramatic 11-point fall from the previous month, according to the latest Gallup poll.

LOL,  so it not OK  for people who are not politicians  to put anti-vaccine ads  on Facebook  , but  it's fine if politicians to  put anti-vaccine ads  on Facebook what a joke .  There  using AI  to serve you ads  and there going to use AI  to remove them .So there going use it to try and sway the public opinion in the USA but still  they will be  anti-vaccine ads by politicians on there platform .  That's right  the goverment owns you Facebook !!!! Your just a mouth piece  for Uncle Sam.....

Silicon Valley's social media is the reason the world  is so messed  up before  them crazy  coots  were just  crazy coots that stayed to themselves . Now they have platforms  to spreed  misinformation they created  this dumpster  fire. Before it was simple if you didn't  take your shots you could not go to school  so  everybody  did it. All  the  smaller social media sites  that crazy  coots flock too  are just  forks  of  Silicon Valley's social media  they all came from one of the mainstream sites .  Rule changing and resentment always will  provide some the traffic they need to become there own site.    :(
