Google's Recorder app will let Pixel users share or edit out audio snippets

One of the most impressive software features debuting with the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 is an audio editing feature for Google's Recorder app. The Mountain View firm added real-time transcriptions and the ability to search for audio clips last year, and today's update lets users select a snippet of audio from the corresponding transcription in a recorded clip. They can then either share or remove the selected part from the larger audio file.

 

Since automated transcripts are made for all recordings, users can use these transcripts to edit the audio. The editing process just requires users to highlight a sentence they want to edit out, and its corresponding audio will be selected. The update makes it possible to find and remove crutch words like 'uh,' 'um,' or other ones during interviews, so this feature can be convenient for many users.

 

The firm is also making searching through transcripts easier by adding smart scrolling, which will automatically mark important words in longer transcripts, which helps users quickly get to the information they might need the most. The feature can be used offline, similar to how English transcription function works without the need of an internet connection.

 

Though Google announced the feature in a blog discussing the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G's exclusive capabilities, it will not be surprising if it arrives on older Pixel phones as well.
