nsane.forums
Rival browser developers claim spike in downloads Mozilla has reported an extra 300,000 downloads of its Firefox browser in Germany after governments across Europe advised citizens not to use Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Ken Kovash, from Mozilla's metrics team, confirmed that the company had also seen far more downloads in France after the warnings. "We have seen a statistically significant rise in the number of downloads originating in France and Germany following recommendations that citizens migrate away from Internet Explorer," he said. A graph published by Mozilla claimed to show the surge in downloads in Germany since 14 January, but specific figures for France were not immediately available. "We can see an uptick in web site traffic from people in France since yesterday, but the impact on downloads will take another day or two to show up in our download numbers," Kovash explained. Browser developer Opera also claimed to have seen a rise in downloads, but was unable to give any specific figures. "We have seen a significant rise in France and Germany where the governments warned against the use of IE, but also in other regions as consumers start to think more carefully about their browser choices for security reasons," said Christen Krogh, chief development officer at Opera. Krogh added that, although the attack through Microsoft's browser was regrettable, it would help to spur debate and awareness among users about the importance of secure browsing and the fact that alternative browsers are available. "Opera has always had a very strict security policy, and we pride ourselves as being the safest browser," he said. View: Original Article

HX1
What seems funny to me is that just the other day, I went to this 'Unnamed Site'.. To apply to be someone who answers calls, and takes orders. The site started off by stating that you must use IE..nothing else accepted.. So I am like okay.. not to unusual.. Then after filling half of the application out.. it says that I must now run an add-on and install something for IE.. so I am like okay w/e.. Then it starts all over again and I do another application and get to the end...AT WHICH point...LOL... I get an error stating something is either wrong with their database, or that there are already records for my self in it.. So I am sitting here thinking.. 'Okay.. sites jacked-up, obviously has no IT support, and has been hacked..considering the recent activity online and everything that has been going on.. I am all like okay.. Contact Support... So I send an e-mail at which point two days later they send an e-mail stating I need to call a number.. where I talk to this guy who wants to blame the issue on my computer.. states that it could be their site, but insists upon trying to connect Remotely ( RDP ) to my system... So I am sitting here thinking that for no obvious cause of the issue this guy wants to connect to my system ( incidentally trying to make me FEEL or believe that nobody else would do what he is doing [oddly enough that was exactly what I was thinking - different context] ) from a possibly hacked/jacked network... so they can fix THEIR database... made no sense to me.. so I stated that I had all of this disabled on my system completely.. and that I would call him back after I re-enabled it.. Never bothered...My point here being that it seems site after site is still relying on defunct security and have not even been paying attention to the reports and IT News globally. The majority of these methods have been around since the 90's, still have the same vulnerabilities and issues.. yet companies don't even bother in trying to protect themselves or their clients form the issues.. Its one of those things where you just sort of sit there.. you chuckle a second about how stupid it is.. ad then you hit SOLEMNESS about the whole thing, why and how these people are able to even so remotely remain this way, and why...CHANGE.. big word.. IE needs it... Technically I think the web in general needs an assessment and an overhaul..
