The news of Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media, owner of Bethesda, is hard to miss considering the scale of the deal. However, alongside that announcement there was another major piece of news from Microsoft - Xbox Game Pass now has over 15 million subscribers.

First launched in June 2017, it took almost three years for Game Pass to reach 10 million subscribers, a goal it hit in late April, according to Microsoft. Now, in less than five months since then, the service has grown by another five million subscribers - a massive 50% increase.

Microsoft has gone to great lengths to make Game Pass a compelling service. Not only does it include all of its own-published games on launch day, it also gets many titles from other developers, such as Red Dead Redemption 2, which was added in May. Microsoft has also acquired a large number of studios in the past couple of years, bringing even more titles to the service on day one.

Most recently, Microsoft announced that EA Play, a subscription service focused on Electric Arts games, is being added to Xbox Game Pass at no additional cost, and it launched cloud streaming as part of Game Pass Ultimate, giving users the chance to play games even without a console or PC. And today, of course, came the news of the Bethesda acquisition, which will see its future games land on Game Pass as soon as they release. Major additions will likely continue to drive even faster growth for the service.

Sony and M$  are not even competing  against  each other anymore  it seems . Microsoft  is going toward  being   the Netflix  of gaming   and Sony is   still going by how many consoles  and games they sell. It just depends on do you  want  to own your  games  or  do you want to rent them  on what  you buy . They are doing 2 totally different things . XBOX  as a service.   Renting  games  work good   just like  renting  DVDS  and BLURAY  did then streaming  replaced  it .

Microsoft  have moved  in  a whole different  path than the other consoles . But this could be really  bad in the  end like it was for  streaming  Big Tech could  end up buying  all  the game companies up  and you will need  many  services  just to  play your games . Netflix  rode  that cloud for years  and now  it crashed on them   . If  one can do it they all can.  Netflix  got  too  greedy  and the  publishers got tired of  Netflix  making  the most money  and pulled  there content and made there own streaming services .   That what happen  to Netflix  in the long term, So i don't know if trying  to be the Netfix of gaming  will be very profitable  10 years from now.  If  the independent Game DEVS cant  profit  off subs they  will  leave  and go somewhere  they can profit, At the end of the day  its  about  how much  money  they can make . Selling  games as a service degrades  there worth. Keep in mind  Netflix  pay out billions a year to make there own content  so they  want  become a thing of the past .Not very different  than paying billions to acquire it.

Microsoft  own history shows how  stuffs worth degrades over  the  years  windows  use  to cost a consumer  a 100 or 200 dollars  they use  to make all there money off  selling  windows  . Windows  became  almost  worthless  to consumers  by 2015  they gave it away   and  the only people they  have left buying  it are businesses they have suckered since the 1990s. Google ,Apple  and China  have reign  over the consumer market  now.

Games never had this  problem  they  sell regardless and Microsoft  making a power grab  and making  them worthless   like windows  were  they pocket  most the money is going to cause  a backlash. They ruined  the whole PC industry  with there stupid ideas   they  sale very little units to consumers  and  soon  all businesses will have windows 10  and  M$  will  be still  profiting from selling as a service  and 3rd parties  want  be able to move any units.

All this  is,  there trying to  take other  peoples hard work  and fix it were   they make all the money . But  after so many years it fails because somebody else replaces  it .  Right  now there  is a strong  market  for games  because  there is a virus  , there nothing on TV much  , this the 1st summer  in my life  were people did not go outside much . But once there's  a vaccine people   will not want  to be indoors after being couped up  and they will be using there smartphones again  .There  just like Netflix  riding  a storm  cloud  before the storm. :tooth:

From what little  people make  on making  games i dont know  why they bother

https://www.theverge.com/2019/10/9/20903139/indie-game-developers-creators-money-funding

Its the   big outfits  that  sell them that make all the profit  you can buy  indie games  cheap ,  They have to  be well established to be worth  a lot  its like being a artist  you  may starve  to death  unless you get lucky .

They must be a lack of  games  for people want  to subscribe  to old titles mostly .Most people  i know  once they  finish a game  they  want  to get a new one  and   all  M$  games are sold  on PC  as well. The PC is why M$ never been able  to sell many XBoxes   . People  buy PS  and Nintendo for exclusive new games  and just use Windows  to play Microsoft  games.   I guess  in the  end people  will just buy all 3 consoles  and  just use Linux . The   few games  this company makes are not  enough  to keep  people who  use Steam  happy.
