Edge Canary adds ability to sort Collections alphabetically or by date 

 

A recent Microsoft Edge Canary update has added the ability for users to sort Collections by date or in alphabetical order by name (spotted first by Reddit user u/Leopeva64-2). The option is a minor one that makes using Collections easier by allowing users to sort links to keep track of when the items were added, for improved discoverability.

 

Collections lets users collate links and notes in lists to set them aside for later. The links can also be exported to various other apps such as Excel and Word. The ability to export Collections to OneNote – a feature that will be useful for students – is also currently present in the Canary and Dev channels. The aim with Collections was to provide a replacement for the feature in Edge Legacy that let users set tabs aside for viewing later. Collections also recently made it to the mobile versions of the browser, making it a nifty tool for those that rely on the feature.

 

In addition to the sorting feature, today’s Canary build also seems to enable the vertical tabs design option for more users. The firm promised this feature back in March, which recently began rolling out to a small set of users running Canary and Dev builds. A new icon to the left of the tabs lets you switch between vertical and horizontal layouts. The tabs can also be rearranged vertically. It is currently not widely available but is already being tracked in the feature tracker.

 

 

While there is no set timeline for the vertical tabs feature, it should begin showing up for users running Insider versions of the browser sooner rather than later.
