nsane.forums
Web app looks to simplify setup of hypervisor VMware has designed a new service aimed at simplifying the task of virtualising servers for small and medium-sized businesses. The company said that the Go web-based service would allow SMBs to install and configure the company's ESXi hypervisor tool. Both services are being offered free of charge. First unveiled at the VMworld conference as a beta service last summer, Go is aiming to expand the use of virtualisation amongst companies that lack large IT departments. The tool will consolidate the process for installing and implementing the ESXi platform to three steps, including the installation of the hypervisor itself, setting up and configuring virtual machines, and managing the various systems once the platform has been installed and put to work. VMware hopes that the tool will increase the adoption of virtualised setups by eliminating the need for companies to perform long, on-site installations and configurations of hypervisors."With VMware Go, we are eliminating the skill barrier for getting started with virtualization, so companies who are concerned about not having the IT resources or expertise, especially SMBs, can now more quickly and easily enjoy the many benefits of virtualization," said Dan Chu, VMware's vice president of emerging products and markets.
