nsane.forums
Modern society, with its emphasis on material possessions and indifference to community, is making us mentally ill. It's an argument that wouldn't seem out of place on the Sunday talk shows, but in this case, it's appearing in the academic journal Clinical Psychology Review, and the argument is backed by decades of data and a cognitive model that attempts to make sense of the process. The data suggests that there has been an increase in a standard measure of mental problems among individuals in their late teens and early 20s, and that the trend dates back at least to the 1930s.The authors mention that a variety of studies have found mixed results when examining the time course of mental health within the US. Some of the studies that have attempted to address this problem have attempted to extrapolate trends using surveys of people in different age groups, but these studies suffer from two problems: mental health doesn't remain static during an individual's lifetime, and those with serious mental disabilities (such as clinical depression) tend to die younger than their peers. Bizarre™
Is the US increasingly a nation of psychoses? No doubt :lmao:

Mozo
A person would have to be crazy to agree with a premise such as this.
HX1
Well I agree with the general statement.. maybe not the source of being so much as what is stated as being the specific reason, and n such being said I don't think anyone should assume that it is such. I believe that so much more can be a contributory factors. One of many being the steering or manipulation of the populous to drive various areas. Development of the human mind physically, goes well into the the mid-twenties..( this can include biochemical balances as well )... I think that in many cases the process in which the brain develops can have much to do with the current state ( wherever that may be ). It also prepares the individual for dealing with more traumatic issues later in life .. or CAN should I say.. There are many opinions and it truly differs from person to person ( I personally feel that it is more than; deeper ) Some believe in nurture.. some punishment to channel and shape...( both ignore what I am talking of )I think it relies on people realizing what they cannot control, that even talking about it only still creates more of a problem with some.. that some things should not be done and the line should be drawn at a certain point.. of where interaction and effect should stop...The fact is that some who have not developed properly, ( which this effect also can get in the way of development, planning for future areas, and can be quite blinding to truly understanding their environment) social skills and other elements within their life, begin to realize that certain things they will have to have to ever be desirable in one manner or another even to an employer.. Pressure comes into play.. Others who do not care, who do not realize what these elements represent, throw this to the wind in almost a vandalist manner.. They don't understand the emotional response to ruining something that at some point will never return, and how much importance is placed on these things to be happy and have areas of our life taken care of the way that they should...(and some all too much) Almost as though they want to show how meaningless they are.. Yet its quite real that we do not live in a simpler time, and that we decide to be who we are.. The importance is being placed on happiness.. How far will we go to get it.. and how hard it is becoming with th change in the economy.. everywhere.. Also it becomes shown what other elements are being devalued for sake of them having their chance... WHY? because for the most part.. Their and our lives are being vandalized in this fashion.. at every turn.. Giving up and not caring is becoming an unproductive member of society useless for nothing more than personal existence.. and destroys the value of existence..So we have a high stress state when it starts to slip away, at what point does it become traumatic? Now let's see what other influences we have that seem to be able to change the ambience of our daily lives.. Media.. Tabloids, paranoia.. constant 'states of emergency', inter-personal issue which can take center stage and throw us completely off our game.. Try throwing it all in together and you may have a ticking bomb.. At any point it is just a simple break-up away from the trauma ward from a suicide attempt planned out for years..Too much anger for this form of existing too many issues and problems from dateline to dateline, and everyone too ripped from themselves to really be on the level to make it any better..You wind-up with a destroyed mind which may take years to change back and then it all becomes a relapsing problem at the first sign of stress or one of these issues we can't fix.. Some may come back and repair enough to live... others can be lost forever... May be not even able to live their lives..without help, and/or a controlled environment.I think simply being aware may be the only thing that may give you a strand of hope.. but that even can die ... Life after life can loose its content...I mean really what person is not going to find something to blame the voices in their head on ..anyway.. LOL ( true psychosis ).. But no I would NEVER believe that 'materialism' is the soul root to all forms of psychosis.. to be truthful I commented before reading the whole thing.. On the tagline.. yeah.. I have seen it.. (not just the US) People seem to be closer to loosing it.. That say they were 10 years ago.. I also see a broader range of people who are more adaptive at dealing with the issues as well. It is everyday life, yet in that I see that possibly the change itself, or need for it can be ignored...There are really some big elements that need to change...I believe in a balance so that the 'unforseen' is not such a shock.. widening this area can be dangerous, and creating a prolonged state of imbalance I feel will never be good.. for anyone.. ( even perspective or development ) or anything.. even for the fate of the government.. This is no small thing to ignore..EDIT: A few typos.. and yes another weird commentary from me... Where will we stop feeling alone out here?
