POCO, a separate brand spun off by Xiaomi, has launched its new smartphone in India, the POCO M2 Pro.

The M2 Pro is the company’s second phone to launch in the country this year after the POCO X2. The 2020 portfolio comes after a long hiatus from the maiden device, POCO F1, that was launched way back in 2018. Since then, the company has reinvented itself, tried to separate itself from the mothership, and has been moving down the value chain to appeal to the budget segment.

From the specifications sheet, the Poco M2 Pro appears to be a slightly tweaked variant of the Redmi Note 9 Pro launched in India in March this year.

The POCO M2 Pro comes in three color variants - Out of the Blue, Green and Greener, and Two Shades of Black – and will go on sale exclusively on Flipkart starting July 14. The 4GB + 64GB variant is priced at ₹13,999 ($187), the 6GB + 64GB one is at ₹14,999 ($201), and the top-of-the-line 6GB + 128GB variant carries a price tag of ₹16,999 ($228).

In the launch presentation streamed online, C Manmohan, General Manager at POCO, shared that all POCO phones are manufactured in India. The assertion was clearly to dispel the anti-China sentiment in the market due to recent diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
