A step in combating the COVID-19 pandemic is the study of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and protein folding in general. To this end, we've seen initiatives that allow people at home to contribute spare computing power to projects like Folding@home, Rosetta@home, and the IBM World Community Grid.

To further incentivize participation in these projects, CPUcoin, a decentralized Infrastructure-as-a-Service, has announced a partnership with UC Berkeley’s BOINC, an open-source software platform for computing using volunteered resources, to provide cryptocurrency for volunteers who share their computing power for research on protein folding and COVID-19.

In particular, those contributing to the Rosetta@home project or the IBM World Community Grid can start earning cryptocurrency automatically once the system has been set up. This initiative follows from an earlier integration between CPUcoin and Berkeley's BOINC system.

To get started, you'll first need to download and install CPUcoin’s CGN Miner and BOINC. Then you'll need to select from two COVID-19 research projects that are supported under the venture—Rosetta@home or IBM Community World Grid. That is pretty much it; the CGN miner will automatically detect when a user is supporting the projects and reward them with extra CPUcoin each day. Subsequently, you can trade CPUcoin for other digital assets including USDT, BTC and ETH on ProBit Exchange.
