In the recording, which is included below, Lightfoot can be heard telling Lopez that she believed his eyewitness reports about "gangbangers with AK47s waiting to settle some scores" were "100% full of shit".

 

"Well f**k you then," Lopez spat back as the two launched into a rancorous back and forth.

Chicago is a tough place to live.  Some are finding the violence hard to ignore and are now pressed to express themselves in cries for help. Just 1 week prior to the exchange of words between the Chicago Mayor and a Chicago Alderman, there was a Chicago city newspaper article with the following headline:

 

85 shot, 24 fatally, over Chicago’s most violent weekend of 2020

More than half of the weekend’s victims were shot on Sunday as the city reeled from violent protests Saturday night that led to hundreds of arrests and the implementation of a curfew.

 

Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said Monday that of the total fatal shootings over the weekend, 17 homicides occurred on Sunday alone.....18 murders in 24 hours: Inside the most violent day in 60 years in Chicago....

 

Whether AK-47's were used may or may not be a fact,  but the Alderman certainly bought some attention to an inconvenient matter that is haunting that city.
