Earlier today, Apple released iOS 13.5 Developer Beta 4 and Public Beta 3 update for iPhone users. The new update some minor new changes as well as adds an important feature to iPhones. The new update will allow iPhone users to share their Medical ID with the first responders or during a 911 call.

In case you don't know, Medical ID allows users to record their medical information into the Health app on their iPhone which can be used in case of an emergency. Medical ID records information like your blood group, existing medical conditions, allergies, and your emergency contacts. With the new iOS 13.5 update, users can enable the feature and share Medical ID with the 911 operator. Unfortunately, the feature works only in places with support for Enhanced Emergency Data and Apple will use your location data to determine if your area supports it or not.. Apple noted that the data will be encrypted on the phone and will be shared securely with the first responders. The company also confirmed that the feature will work with Apple Watch Series 4 and 5’s fall detection technology.

Medical ID information can already be accessed from the lock screen of even a locked iPhone. This allows first responders to access your medical information without having to unlock your phone. The new feature will extend the scope of Medical ID as the idea here is to get accurate information across even when you are not able to communicate yourself.
