Microsoft announces the Surface Go 2 with a 10.5-inch screen and smaller bezels

Microsoft's Surface Go 2 is one of the worst-kept secrets around, but today, it's finally official. The biggest change is that it now has a 10.5-inch display with a 1920x1280 resolution, giving it a slightly higher 220ppi pixel density, compared to 217ppi on the original. But the half-inch-larger screen fits into a chassis that's the exact same size, so the bezels are a little bit smaller.

 

Another improvement is going to be performance, at least if you're willing to pay for it. The base model comes with an Intel Pentium Gold 4425Y, a minor improvement over the Pentium Gold 4415Y, although this one is from the Amber Lake family. There's also an option for a Core m3-8100Y now, though, which is the next step up from a Pentium Gold.

 

 

Other than that, not much has changed. Your storage options are still 64GB eMMC and 128GB SSD, and RAM options are 4GB and 8GB. There's still a 4G LTE option, and not even the LTE modem has changed, offering a Snapdragon X16 for gigabit connectivity. In the connectivity department, Bluetooth has been updated to 5.0.

 

As far as ports go, it includes a lone USB Type-C port, a Surface Connect port, a microSD card reader, and a 3.5mm combo audio jack. It has the same 2W Dolby Audio speakers at its predecessors, but it does have dual microphones now. It's also a little bit heavier at 544g and 553g for the Wi-Fi and LTE models, respectively, compared to 522g and 532g.

 

The Surface Go 2 will be available on May 12 starting at $399, and it will come with Windows 10 Home in S mode or Windows 10 Pro. The Type Cover accessory will be available in Platinum, Black, Poppy Red, and Ice Blue.
