ASRock will support base frequency overclocking on non-Z490 motherboards.

A picture from the upcoming ASRock Intel 400 series motherboard presentation reveals that the company has developed a new technology that will bring overclocking to non-Z motherboards (B460/H470).

The technology will allegedly increase the TDP of the processor to the maximum PL1 value, which would therefore as a result, increase the frequency of the processor. The slide reveals that 65W TDP CPUs will operate as if they were configured at 125W.

The non-K series are officially ‘locked’ CPUs for overclocking, hence this technology could bring a drastic shift in Intel’s approach to product positioning. Intel has not confirmed overclockability for non-K processors in the official slides that leaked 2 days ago.

It’s worth noting that AMD allows CPU overclocking on its B450 motherboards, the same applies to all Ryzen 3000 series processors.

A few days ago, we published a picture of the MAXSUN B460 motherboards, which had interesting buttons on the I/O section, presumably for overclocking.
