Firefox 3.5 passes IE7 as most popular web browser

We've all been watching the browser share trends for quite some time now, wondering when the day would come that an alternative finally shoved Internet Explorer off its perch.

It's finally happened - at least when we're talking about the most popular single version of a browser. You can see it all in the bar graph above: Firefox 3.5 has dethroned Internet Explorer 7.

Yes, we can all see the other two lengthy bars below IE7. Add them up, and it still means Internet Explorer (6,7, and 8 combined) is more popular overall. Still, for anything to overtake IE anywhere is pretty dang impressive.

Well of course this was meant to happen.

IE7 'popularity' :P is indeed dropping because IE8 popularity is rising.

Hate to say it but IE8 will eventually catch up and pass FF 3.5...

Unless my Christmas wish comes true  ...

IE was an integral component of the Windows OS. This could be one of the reasons for it's popularity (it was literally foisted upon Users.)

Sorry, but I have to disagree. IE8 sucks more then IE7. I still can't believe how it's performance is so bad. I mean, opening new tab is so slow. Opening pages is even slower. IE will use somebody who has not heard for any other browser. And I think that there is low percentage of people that didn't hear for Firefox or some other browser. Firefox will continue to grow, and Microsoft would need to do some really big improvements to get IE position back. Only some new version can do that, IE8 is not that version for sure, but I even doubt that a new version is capable of taking Firefox place.

Cheers ;)

Well you should look at this post of mine.. Post #14 .. Just in case it may help your program performance.. You may want to check out the main post in this thread too.. I mean mine with crappy hardware can be as fast as any of the rest.. The reason I mention this is because it used to take me forever to load Windows Update.. and just creating an empty new tab.. too a while.. ran the item talked about in the post and .. REALLY got some good results with it..

Well I wasn't actually joking, however I now realise what I said was wrong.

I'm still afraid IE8 will pass FF3.5, but NOT in means of popularity.

Probably in means of the number of people using it, (thanks to Microsoft's monopoly <_< )
