Free GitHub users’ accounts were just updated in the best way: The online software development platform has dropped its $7 per month “Pro” tier, splitting that package’s features between the free tier and its formerly more expensive “Team” tier. This means that free GitHub users now have a couple of new features available to them (and “Team” accounts now cost less, too).

Here’s everything included with a free GitHub account under the new pricing structure:

Previously available:

  • Unlimited public or private repositories.
  • 500MB of storage for private repositories.
  • Automated GitHub security updates.
  • 2,000 free GitHub action minutes per month. Action minutes let you automate certain parts of your workflow through GitHub, like testing multiple builds at once. Public repositories include unlimited GitHub actions, but private repository actions are billed based on minutes.

New additions:

  • Unrestricted private repository access. GitHub began letting free users host their code privately on the service about a year ago, but capped the number of project collaborators at three users per repository. However, as of the new pricing changes, free users are no longer bound by those restrictions and can include as many private repository collaborators as they wish.
  • A cheaper entry-level paid tier: Access to GitHub’s Team tier, which boosts your monthly GitHub action minutes to 3,000, your storage for private repositories to 3GB, and gives you access to other advanced features like personalized support, now runs $4 per user per month instead of $7.

Anyone interested in GitHub’s service can join for free. Users with an existing account should have access to the new features right now.
