Mozilla adds support for a few more extensions to Firefox Preview

In Firefox for Android 68.x, users can pretty much install any add-on but they’re not all designed for mobile and some, therefore, don’t integrate properly. With the new Firefox (Fenix), Mozilla appears to be just letting a few add-ons in at a time that it knows works. So far it has introduced uBlock Origin but now support has been added for NoScript, HTTPS Everywhere, Privacy Badger, Dark Reader, and Search by Image.

According to Hentzschel who initially discovered that support for these add-ons had been introduced, Mozilla isn’t currently releasing Nightly updates for Firefox Preview due to COVID-19. If users want to try out the new add-ons they’re free to wait until builds resume or they can grab the code from GitHub and build the APK themselves.

It’s not clear right now whether Mozilla will slowly add more extensions in batches at a time or whether it will eventually allow you to install anything from the Mozilla Add-Ons library. If the company opts to limit the extensions that can be installed, at least users will know they are reliable on mobile and trustworthy.

At the end of March, it was reported that Firefox (Fenix) was beginning to arrive on the Firefox Beta channel in the Play Store. According to the Are we Fenix yet? website, the rollout to beta users is 66.7% complete, at the rate it’s going it should reach completion by the end of the month.
