thumb_oldphone_sxc-thumb-230x130-10471-f.jpg Google is supposedly in the process of testing its own phone and may be set to release it as early as 2010. The plan, according to the rumor mill, is to release the device without a carrier partner—a strategy that is near unheard of here in the US and could force some carriers to put up or shut up when it comes to welcoming just any device onto their networks.

The renewed buzz about an entirely Google-ified phone comes courtesy of "people familiar with the matter" speaking to the Wall Street Journal. The phone is being manufactured by HTC for Google, though it won't be like other Android phones already on the market—Google was allegedly involved with the design of every aspect of the device, making it a legit "Google Phone" as opposed to a third-party phone that runs Android. The phone is currently being referred to as the Nexus One, according to the WSJ.

My mom would really like to get the phone in the photo! No joke, she really likes old-fashioned things except for big-screen TVs.
