For Windows 10 users, check your driver type (standard or DCH) first before installing. You will need to open the NVIDIA Control Panel and refer to the System Information to determine what type of driver is installed (either DCH or Standard). More details here.


Also for Windows 10 users running v1803 and above, you can migrate to use DCH driver from Standard driver as well, but not the other way around.

 

Those with GTX 10, GTX 16, RTX 20 and TITAN (desktop only) and installed the Studio Driver can easily switch to Game-Ready driver and vice versa, but via the GeForce Experience App. More details here.
 

Important note for Windows 7 users:
Microsoft now provides only SHA-2 signed drivers. If your Windows 7 system is NOT equipped to detect SHA-2, you need to install the SHA-2 update support patches. Hmm...this is interesting...though there's no clean version for non GTX and RTX drivers tho. The only thing to get clean version of non GTX and RTX drivers is to run NVSlimmer or manually extract via WinRAR and deleting unneeded folders and also editing the setup.cfg file.

Is anyone else getting dxgmms2.sys BSODs with this driver?

I remember that from many years ago. And this fixes it most often:

  • Go to your registry: Start --> Run --> Type in "Regedit"
  • Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers"
  • Create a key of type "DWORD (32-bit)" and name "TdrDelay" with a value of 8 (can double click it to edit).

I was just reading this article and this one.

 

It says this:

Right-click and create a “DWORD (32-bit)” type of key (if you are using 64-bit OS then create QWORD (64-bit)) and set its name to “TdrDelay”. Set its value to 10 the first time. This gives 10 seconds of response time to your GPU instead of 2 (the initial value). If this does not work for you, try setting this value to 20 or 30.

Does DWORD (32-bit) work on a 32-bit OS, or should I use QWORD (64-bit) ?

  • Go to 3D Settings -> Manage 3D settings

After some further testing, I have established that this setting is what fixed it for me.

Both of the other 2 settings (Optimal Power and Maximum Performance) gave me BSODs.

TDR has nothing to do with driver irql not  less or equal BSOD. TDR generates the "the display driver has stopped responding and it had to be reset" error (or words to that effect) or a BSOD, but related to a display time out issue, not to the irql not less or equal error.
