steven36
The German car brand is accused of "sales punching" and could face big fines if found guilty. Falsifying sales data is bad news, especially if you get caught by the SEC. The folks from BMW must have never seen HBO's The Wire. If they had, they'd know that juking the stats is always a bad idea. According to a report published Tuesday by the Wall Street Journal, BMW is under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission. The SEC is looking into BMW's US operations because the luxury brand has allegedly been engaging in a practice known as "sales punching," in which a dealer reports vehicles that are still in inventory as being sold. This shows up as inflated sales, which looks good on a monthly balance sheet but causes all kinds of other problems down the line. If this falsifying sales narrative sounds kind of familiar, it's likely because Fiat Chrysler underwent a similar investigation a few months ago, spurred in part by Reid Bigland, one-time head of the Ram truck brand. That investigation resulted in FCA shelling out a little cash for a fine and promising never to do it again. We'd expect similar results for BMW if found guilty. Notably -- and perhaps because of these sales practices which got them in trouble -- FCA joined Ford and General Motors in transitioning to quarterly sales reports, rather than monthly. The Wall Street Journal points out that while the Big Three changed reporting, most other brands still report monthly. Neither BMW nor the SEC responded immediately to Roadshow's request for comment. aum
Who (corporation, government. etc.) doesn't falsify? For that we all are already in jail (the ever-changing, stress-ridden, restless world)?

What you say has nothing to do with this topic , because each goverment has laws and if you break them your investigated and no one will most likely go to jail the USA is not China most abusers of sales data get away with a fine only . That's unless there wanted for other crimes and thats only thing they can get on them then they will give them the maximum plenty .

But it has everything to do with the subject in the same way a part is related to the whole.

Just because every one falsify because it's human nature to lie and it's only a crime if you get caught breaking laws doing it , then it's up to the courts to decide did they break the law. And as far as goverment goes you can be found guilty and still be pardoned it just depends who you are and who is in goverment will they have mercy on you . Perjury is a crime it's always been law you should not lie . Just because everybody do it don't make it right . And 2 wrongs don't make a right . If everybody could do as they please they would be no order left and everybody would just hurt and deceive . All laws are based on passed wrong doings that caused people harm . The USA dont have have to buy cars from BMW if they don't want and if they going to lie they can pay the fine. The EU has no mercy on the USA when there businesses break there laws . Google is the 3rd biggest suppler to EU economy from paying fines alone what comes around goes around. Does Google pull out because they get fined? No that's just the price of doing business with them. If your found guilty of a crime in the USA you have to pay the penalty and if you don't like it you can leave after you pay for your crime. That if your trusted if your not trusted and not from the USA they will kick you out themselves . It's the same in every country expect for places like the EU who have international law for more than one country and that there problem that they let one set of Goverment push all of western Europe around and that even makes things more complicated and why the UK is pulling out. Proof they punish people in China for it like they do in the USA Chinese city reliant on US trade fires official for faking export data https://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-economy-trade-fake/chinese-city-reliant-on-us-trade-fires-official-for-faking-export-data-idUSKCN1NH0Z0 For lying about trade just being fined is getting off cheap it can get you banned from trade if they really want to be crude about it. If you don't think it's a big deal and you get caught doing it you will pay the price the lest thing could happen is you lose your job but the worse thing could happen is you go to jail like this researcher did. An HIV Researcher Was Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Falsifying Data https://www.thecut.com/2015/07/5-years-in-prison-for-falsifying-data.html Even people in Goverment who got caught falsifying data it ruined there reputation for life even if they were pardoned no one will ever trust them ever again. Then when they don't get elected they try to blame it on the Russians without saying any names. What i'm saying all you have is your word and if people put trust in you and you get found out to be deceiving them in the end you will fall. Anymore most businesses just buy thereway out of it and places that don't make no claims and you still use there stuff and they didn't lie no way you just deceived yourself for not reading there terms because the info was there.
