Jobik Posted November 10, 2019 Share Posted November 10, 2019 Hello everybody A few days ago, I decided to (try to) install windows 10 on my new desktop computer. First, all went fine and, as usual, I began to personalize it. The problems began to appear when I wanted to install and use other apps to see or modify photos, or read videos. After 1 or 2 days (?) Windows said that it resetted the default apps (viewer and paint). Well. I went back in parameters and modified the things to use my own apps. No way. It seemed to work, but later I obtained the same warning... and the sames changes... I googled my problem and saw that many users experience the same situation. I tried some workarounds, but at this time I found nothing to solve it. So I open this topic to ask the community if there is a "magic" way to prevent windows from resetting my defaults apps. After having red many articles, I discovered that this situation is known by microsoft (see topics in https://answers.microsoft.com) They don't say it's a bug, but a security safeguard... hmm... But it is strange that I have had from the beginning only one similar problem, what about have been written many times. I don't know why I don't have them. But just don't have them. It would be interesting to know why they are writing about. What's the reason. OK, I'm awaiting your research and of course the reasons. It means, why You have these problems and I don't. Jobik Posted November 10, 2019 Author Share Posted November 10, 2019 Prevent windows from resetting my defaults apps (next episode...) Well, I tried the "setuserFTA" tool. This was the situation : - I try to open a jpg picture. It opened in my default app (irfanview). ok. - Then I edited an epub file in winzip (yes, you can) and immediately got a message saying that my jpg association has been resetted. - I ran setuserFTA to re-associate my jpg files with irfanview and it was ok. - But when i re-opened my epub file in winzip, the same warning message appeared and, yes, my jpg association went back to default viewer. Diverting thing : I tried to edit the same epub file, not in winzip but in winrar, and the jpg association stayied to irfanview... Everytime I run setuserFTA, it works, but this is only temporary.... So I have to find another way to solve the problem (maybe only not use winzip with epub files...) EDIT : Now I have to know if I encounter this association reset only in this situation.
