Nvidia introduces the GTX 1660 and 1650 SUPER GPUs

Nvidia is expanding its SUPER family of GPUs with variants of the GTX 1660 and 1650. Just like it did with its RTX GPUs, these SUPER cards aim to improve upon the performance of the previous model at a similar price point. Both of the cards are meant for gaming at 1080p, which 63% of gamers do, according to Steam's hardware survey.

 

The Nvidia GTX 1660 SUPER promises to be up to 1.5 times faster than a GTX 1060 with 6GB of memory, and it's somewhere in between the GTX 1660 Ti and regular GTX 1660. It has faster memory than both of those, with 6GB of 14Gbps GDDR6 VRAM, but the 1408 CUDA cores are more similar to those found on the GTX 1660. Nvidia says the faster memory can result in up to 20% faster frame rendering, though, which is already significant. The GTX 1660 SUPER is available today starting at $229, which is $10 more than the launch price of the GTX 1660, but $50 less than the GTX 1660 Ti.

On November 22, Nvidia will also launch the GTX 1650 SUPER, which, offers up to twice the performance of a GTX 1050, but it's also a significant bump over the regular 1650. The number of CUDA cores has been bumped from 896 to 1280, and the base clock has been boosted from 1485MHz to 1530MHz. The GDDR5 memory has also been upgraded to GDDR6, moving from 8Gbps to 12Gbps, with a peak bandwidth of 192GB/s. Nvidia didn't announce a price for the GTX 1650 SUPER, but the stock GTX 1650 starts at $149, so it shouldn't be too far from that.
