Microsoft releases PowerToys 0.12 letting you batch rename files

Microsoft released a new preview build of its PowerToys utility today, with a new feature called PowerRename, or Smart Rename, depending on where you look. The idea is pretty simple, but it's one of those features that you never knew you wished you had. It lets you rename files in batches, using a simple find and replace technique found in most word processors.

And of course, if you don't like the changes that you've made, you can simply undo them.

Another big improvement is called FancyZones, which should make it easier to arrange and snap your apps "into efficient layouts for your workflow". The feature supports multiple monitors now, the FZ Editor can be used on small screens, and the hotkey to launch the Editor is now customizable. There are also a bunch of fixes for FancyZones.

Finally, Microsoft added some dark mode support in PowerToys. It's now included in the app's settings and ShortcutGuide.

If you want to check out PowerToys, you can find the project over on GitHub. It's an open-source project, so anyone can contribute over on the GitHub community.
