Karlston Posted October 21, 2019 Share Posted October 21, 2019 Windows 10 KB4517389 Update breaks apps and Defender ATP Microsoft already has plenty of issues to resolve and these include BSODs, broken Microsoft Edge browser, Start Menu bug. And now, it looks like Microsoft needs to add two more items to their To-Do list as Windows 10 KB4517389 Update reportedly broke Defender ATP and apps that were coded in Microsoft Visual Basic 3. On launching apps that were coded in Visual Basic 3, users are getting an error message that reads: ‘unexpected error; quitting’. Windows 10 KB4517389 Update might’ve played its role in causing the VBRUN300.DLL to fail, which in turn is responsible for the broken apps, according to thread in Microsoft community site. “We are seeing the same thing with a suite of legacy 16-bit applications we support, written in VB3. We have opened a business support ticket with Microsoft about it and waiting on their product group’s response,” a user noted. Microsoft is to yet acknowledge the broken apps bug, meaning that there are official solutions available and the only thing you can do is uninstall the KB4517389 Update. Broken Defender ATP is another issue that is causing a lot of problems for businesses and enterprises that installed the Windows 10 KB4517389 Update and rely on the Defender ATP. In a support document, Microsoft acknowledged that Defender ATP might stop working, so it might not be able to send reporting data( via Windowslatest). Microsoft said that they are currently investigating the issue and a fix will be rolled out soon. I kinda beg to differ on that as MS Defender AV works well on many of my machines (that's the built-in Defender AV w/out ATP). besides, the WindowsLatest site lists the wrong KB patch breaking Defender ATP. note to Karlston: It's KB4520062 for v1809 that breaks Defender ATP, not KB4517389 for v1903 get the facts straight!
