steven36
Virtual Reality holds potential for a ton of applications. So far, we've mostly explored experiences and games, but one thing we've yet to tap into is VR social experiences. And who best to tackle that than social media giant, Facebook? At least that's how they feel. Facebook has announced it's building its own VR social platform. Think of it like the Oasis from the science fiction movie/book Ready Player One. The project comes courtesy of Facebook's Oculus division, which if you remember has a VR headset of its own. Called Facebook Horizon, it's a virtual reality sandbox universe. What that means is, unlike the Oasis, it's not going to be populated with things by Facebook. Instead, the company will just build the infrastructure and environment and then give you the tools. That way you can build your own little world to hang out with friends, play games, or even go explore other people's creations. All without needing to know coding of course. In that way it's more like a mashup of Second Life and Minecraft. Source
