Sideloading apps in Windows 10 20H1 will be hassle-free

Microsoft’s Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18956 came with a lot of new features, but it seems some of them weren’t listed in the official Changelog. One of the features that Microsoft forgot to mention in the changelog is that with Windows 10 Build 18956 installed you will be able to sideload apps without having to choose the “Sideload apps” option in the Developer settings.

 

The company has removed ‘Microsoft Store apps’ and ‘Sideload apps’ options from Developers settings in the 20H1 Build 18956. You can now either enable the Developer mode or disable it and nothing beyond that.

 

 

“As of Windows Insider Build 18956, sideloading is enabled by default. Now, you can deploy a signed package onto a device without a special configuration,” Microsoft said in revised documentation about sideloading.

 

“Using Windows Insider build 18956? You might notice there is no longer a sideloading setting for #MSIX. Just like .msi or setup.exe we are native to the OS. Developer mode is just an on/off switch now too,” Principal Program Manager Lead at Microsoft John Vintzel explained.

 

 

As John mentioned, you will still be able to install and run apps that are not from Microsoft Store even if you turn off the Developer mode.

 

Microsoft is also rumored to be working on the improvement of the Magnifier UI,  Notification Settings, typing experience,  Optional Feature Management Settings, among others.
