Samsung has a long and illustrious history of trolling Apple in its smartphone commercials. But now the South Korean firm is cloning one of the iPhone features it once mocked, and it has quietly deleted records of the ads.

Samsung unveiled its Note 10 on Wednesday and, as has been widely observed, the phone falls in line with other new devices on the market in that it does not come with a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

"It's looking more and more likely that Samsung, one of the last holdouts of the standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, is phasing out the onetime industry standard," Business Insider's Antonio Villas-Boas noted.

t represents something of a volte-face for the phonemaker, which poked fun at Apple for ditching the headphone jack on the iPhone 7 in 2016.

Samsung released a memorable advertisement in November 2017 titled "Growing Up." It features an iPhone user through the ages becoming increasingly frustrated with the limitations of his phone. In the end, he caves and buys a Samsung Galaxy.

In one section, he ruefully inspects an adapter cable, which enables iPhone users to turn their charging portal into a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Fast forward to 2019 and Note 10 customers may need a similar bit of kit to use wired headphones with their device. And as for that "Growing Up" ad, it has disappeared from some of Samsung's major YouTube channels.

Business Insider found that the ad had been removed from the Samsung Mobile USA page, which has nearly 1.8 million subscribers. It is also not available on the main Samsung channel, which has 3.8 million followers. You can still see the Samsung Mobile USA YouTube page that hosted the ad via the internet archive Wayback Machine.

A follow-up to the "Growing Up" ad released in May 2018 has also disappeared from Samsung YouTube channels. It means articles written about the two ads when they were released (such as these two stories on The Verge) now feature dead YouTube embeds.

Samsung has not completely expunged the ad from its official channels, however. It is still available on some regional channels. So here, courtesy of Samsung Malaysia, is the "Growing Up" ad that trolled an iPhone feature Samsung has now adopted:

Yeah, but for what reason ? Apple ditched the jack port only to force users to use/buy lightning adapter while doing nothing more as counterpart.

Samsung ditched the jack port to make more space for a bigger battery and vibration feeling.

The fact is  Apple was right Wired  devices  are annoying on portable devices such as  smart phones  , But there OK  on stationary devices and   PCs   were you don't move around so using AirPods is much better . It took them a while but they invented  a product much better that sold good with the AirPods.

Apple wanted to launch all-screen phones in the future, devices that didn’t have a home button. To do so, Apple needed to ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack since it wasted so much space.

Apple was once again ahead of the time but not to make things better. We are used to a wire to our headphones since the first Walkman in 1979 ; not that we shouldn't make a step further but the reason about how it's annoying is simply not true, or else it would have been ditched far sooner.

The reason I wrote was about an official Samsung statement, not mine personally, and I agree that you have to make some sacrifices for some more important feature like battery ; it wasn't the case when Apple ditched the port.

For me, if they mocked Apple it's because they didn't bring something beneficial to the user from this.

My only issue is that bluetooth has never been a reliable solution with any phones / headphones I tested ; as soon as I put it in my pocket stutters happens. Plus, there's always differences in sound with bluetooth due to the headphone's DAC that can be really bad although that the cans are great (when in bluetooth sound isn't processed by the phone's audio processing unit ; it's by design).

Apple uses AirPlay which uses WiFi that mean no compression and far better connection.

What was the Google's statement about ditching the port from their phone ? it's not written in the article from your link (or did I misread somewhere ?)

Thanks !

Isn't S10 an all-screen phone WITHOUT home button and WITH 3.5mm headphone jack? 🤔

S10  is close to it  but not a true full screen  phone

According to the reports, however, Samsung isn't rushing to get the phone to store shelves. At best, we could see it next year in a Galaxy S11, but if things don't go well, it could be pushed out even further.

OnePlus, a top Samsung competitor, is said to be prepping a new flagship, called the OnePlus 7 Pro , that will reportedly offer a pop-up selfie camera to create a full-screen effect.

There are no true full screen phones yet  so the race is on . :tooth:

Oneplus  is what most people in USA buys  in the open market no contract   . Most Samsung and Apple are sold more  in the closed market lease to own from your internet provider .

My Samsung Galaxy Ace 4, quite old by now, never "wanted" to work with the headphone jack. I bought it in Panama and noted the issue too late (already I wasn't there, in Panama). Presume it's some small problem and never gave it any importance, simply I use an LG wireless bluetooth earphone. Never had any issue neither with Samsung's nor LG's bluetooth.

Apple is making 16 billion dollars a year off selling watches and airpods  if they didn't work with Bluetooth they would not be selling like hotcakes $160 a pop earpods that plug in  are not but $30 they have  more functions  than Airpods and you don't have to recharge them.  Only reason Airpods sell good is because they wireless .

My point was not to start a debate on full-screen phones, u quoted that Apple wanted to launch full-screen phones in future so thats why they removed headphone jack in iPhone 7, but S10 is almost a full-screen phone (much better screen-to-body ratio than the latest iPhone XS Max, i cant live with that huge ugly notch) and still has the headphone jack ... in-short, full-screen phones are not the excuse for removing the headphone jack, headphone jack could be kept with max screen-to-body ratios 🙂
