Internet Explorer 9 not coming at PDC

Although Microsoft intends to talk a bit about its plans for the future of Internet Explorer this week, the company won't offer preview code of its next browser, CNET has learned.

The software maker is also not planning to announce a move to the WebKit engine, as some had speculated.

In his opening keynote at the Professional Developers Conference on Tuesday, Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie pledged that Microsoft will make Internet Explorer the absolute best Windows browser, but did not offer further details.

Microsoft is expected to talk more about its browser plans as part of Wednesday's keynote speech. During that talk, he is expected to talk about some--but not all--of its "focus areas" for the next browser version, a Microsoft representative told CNET.

The latest version of IE 8 was released in March and is also built into Windows 7. Despite the new release, though, Microsoft faces intense competition from Firefox as well as from Google and Apple.

In addition, Microsoft has struggled to get Internet Explorer users to move past IE 6.

My opinion - No one cares about IE.

Competition is a good thing making browsers better and better.

I care about IE because I use it sometimes.

OK. OK. I'll remove that opinion. ANW yes even I use IE for Windows Update. Tell me with all these problems like slow startup, pages not capable to run with it, etc. is IE worth carin as much as FF or Chrome?

The initial load time used to get me a little..but after that it opens.. and still has to wait to load a local page.. yet faster on the warm load.. I used t think that it was because it was a local file and did something to it, being in Offline mode or something.. but I don't know.. still a major improvement over it predecessors. :)

When comparing the engines.. it really fails yet I think in some ways it proves to make its own ground.. for instance failing the ACID test.. and Microsoft said they had no plans of being compliant.. Yet when yo load a page from their sites. in many cases they load with errors.. Makes yo wonder sometimes..LOL

Well with 99 connections.. 2GB of RAM.. and a HOLF of 1000.. ( great patcher that KotaXor shared, better than the regular one ) it thinks its an Enzo..My only secret.. is getting the settings right.. and using IE7Pro.. with AdBlock Plus 2.6.. thats it..

The fix that K'dude is talking about does actually fix a few issues.. like page load times.. usually is cause by malformed registry entries.. sometimes they can be damaged or incorrect if you upgrade from a previous version..worked out my problems when loading the Windows Update page and a few other issues.. that just suddenly appeared one day..was odd really..

JavaScript, graphics performance improvements on tap for IE9

At PDC, Microsoft talked about what the next version of its browser will bring to the world. IE9 will contain a new emphasis on performance and graphics, and should make the browser far more competitive with its competitors.
