Microsoft issues a fix for the Shutdown bug in the Windows 10 October 2018 Update

Windows 10 October 2018 hit with a bug that caused a delay in shutdown. The delay in the shutdown was noticeable in PCs with a USB Type-C controller plugged into it. As we reported earlier, the USB Type-C Connector System Software Interface (UCSI) bug stretched the completion of shutdown time by more than 60 minutes.

Microsoft finally has issued a fix for the shutdown bug. However, if you’re someone who wants to stick to the Windows 10 October 2018 Update and want to fix the issue then you’re out of luck. Microsoft issued the fix in the Windows 10 May 2019 Update and not in the October 2018 Update, meaning that you’ll have to upgrade your PC to the latest version of Windows 10 that is May 2019 update to solve the issue and as of now, as there is no alternative available.

We haven’t heard anything from Microsoft if there is any plan to introduce the same fix in the October 2018 Update. But it’s very much likely that Microsoft will issue a fix for the PCs running the October 2018 Update.

For those who still don’t want to upgrade, the delay in shutdown can be avoided by unplugging the Type-C controller before you hit the shutdown option. This is the only way if you want to stick with the October 2018 Update.
