Weekly Microsoft Edge Dev Update Released with Improved Dark Mode

The new version of Microsoft Edge Dev

Microsoft has released the typical weekly update for the Dev version of Microsoft Edge browser, bringing the application to build 77.0.197.1.

There are several notable new features, and one of them is improved dark mode support for full page screens, including here settings, history, and others.

The support for dark themes has become a priority for the majority of software developers, including Microsoft, and the last few updates for Microsoft Edge brought several improvements in this regard, especially as the software giant wants the browser to align with the overall look in Windows 10.Pin a website to the taskbarThis new version also introduces an option to show only the icon for specific favorites on the favorites bar, as well as support for additional languages. This means that you can now configure Microsoft Edge to be displayed in a different language than English, and this is clearly a welcome change for users in international markets.

Microsoft Edge now allows users to choose which categories of diagnostic data they want to send as part of the feedback they submit to the company.

Microsoft has also changed the way users can pin a website to the desktop. This feature is now gone, and the browser only allows a user to pin the website to the taskbar. As I explained in a tutorial on how to pin websites to the taskbar in Microsoft Edge, the original implementation required one extra step, so with this update, Microsoft removes this step completely.

On the other hand, given that this feature is now gone, it is a little bit more difficult to pin a website to the desktop or the Start menu, so Microsoft should add a dedicated option in this regard as well.

There are several other improvements in this update, and you can check them in full in the box after the jump.

Build 77.0.197.1 is now available for Edge Insiders on the Microsoft Edge Dev channel. This latest build adds several new features to the new version of the Edge browser such as dark theme support for full page screens, additional languages, and an improved feedback experience.

Here’s the full release notes:

New features and behavior:

  • Added an option to show only the icon for individual favorites on the favorites bar.
  • Added dark theme support for full page screens (Settings, History, etc.)
  • Added more languages that you can display Microsoft Edge in.
  • Added the ability to choose which categories of diagnostic data are sent with feedback.
  • Changed the ability to pin a website to the desktop into the ability to pin a website to the taskbar.
  • Separated the ability to import cards and payment info from certain browsers away from the option to import other autofill data like names and addresses.

Fixes for improved reliability:

  • Fixed an issue where navigating to a website that’s saved as a favorite by typing its address into the address bar crashes the browser.
  • Fixed an issue where opening the DevTools in an InPrivate window sometimes crashes the browser.
  • Fixed an issue where selecting an item from the address bar dropdown sometimes crashes the browser.
  • Fixed an issue where signing out of the browser sometimes crashes it.
  • Fixed an issue where attempting to sign into the browser sometimes leaves it in a broken state.
  • Fixed a crash when using Read Aloud.
  • Fixed an issue where installation was sometimes failing.

Fixes for improved behavior:

  • Fixed an issue where some favorites on the favorites bar spontaneously lost their text.
  • Fixed an issue on Mac where videos on certain websites don’t cause the video controls to appear on the touch bar.
  • Fixed an issue where searching from the address bar doesn’t work with certain search providers.
  • Fixed an issue where certain context menu items were incorrectly appearing in some DevTools context menus.
  • Fixed some strings that weren’t translated.
  • Fixed an issue where the + button to open new tabs sometimes wasn’t the correct color.
  • Improved drag and drop responsiveness on the Favorites page.
  • Fixed some layout issues on the Extensions page when using certain localized builds.

The Dev Channel receives weekly updates for Edge Insiders to test and provide feedback on. The previous update, build 77.0.189.3, added a variety of UI improvements and customizable options for the New Tab Page.

How do you enable the full URL in the Address Bar in Edge Dev?

I've tried the Chrome settings, but I can't get it to work.

I've tried the Chrome settings, but I can't get it to work.

They works, but till now isn't available on settings panel. You must go to

edge://flags

and change these two values/settings to Disable and Restart Browser

After that You'll see full URL and also full subdomains. Only one thing isn't visible, it is protocol, ie http:// or https:// but also it is visible if You click twice on url area.

So these two settings are here

edge://flags/#omnibox-ui-hide-steady-state-url-trivial-subdomains
edge://flags/#omnibox-ui-hide-steady-state-url-path-query-and-ref
edge://flags/#omnibox-ui-hide-steady-state-url-scheme

Current Dev is 77.0.211.3, but I can't post links now, because there is server isn't available currently. I'll trying to add later.

Thanks for that, Kalju, but unfortunately that doesn't work.

Maybe I didn't understand what you were asking.
Maybe you can add a screenshot or explain more. Maybe an example.

So, I don't know, is it here good or bad place, but me seems that some hours ago was released the first Microsoft Edge so called stable version. It is available still only for testers.
I tried only offline installer package and got this info - like You can see, there is no Beta, Dev and Canary, is only Microsoft Edge Version 77.0.235.9 (Official build) (64-bit)....
Here is the About site

I'm using Dev, and it's going great, but I'm still waiting for Extensions Sync to be implemented before I use it on other devices.

Does Canary have it yet?
