Microsoft confirms that Huawei devices will continue to be upgraded and supported

Despite concerns regarding the future of Huawei hardware due to government regulations, Microsoft confirms that Huawei devices will continue to receive updates and support.

What you need to know

  • Microsoft confirms that Huawei devices will continue to receive updates and support.
  • Concerns have arisen regarding the future of Huawei hardware in response to U.S. government regulations.
  • Huawei stated that its devices would continue to be supported last week.

Microsoft confirmed that Huawei devices will continue to receive updates and support in a recent statement to PC World. Concerns have arisen regarding the future of Huawei devices following Huawei being placed on the U.S. entity list. Being on this list bans U.S. companies, including Microsoft and Intel, from trading with Huawei.

While the entity list could have implications regarding devices being released in the future, a Microsoft spokesperson clarified the status of Huawei devices going forward regarding updates and support:

We remain committed to providing exceptional customer experiences... Our initial evaluation of the U.S. Department of Commerce's decision on Huawei has indicated we may continue to offer Microsoft software updates to customers with Huawei devices."

Huawei made a similar statement last week in an FAQ on their website, stating "All Huawei smartphones, tablets, and PCs will continue to receive security patches, Android updates and Microsoft Support."

While current laptops are confirmed to receive updates and support going forward, the government regulations could affect future hardware releases. Huawei already had to delay the launch of a laptop due to the restrictions.

That is just updates  for old stuff   It just like  my old gateway  from 2012 and my Dell  from 2015 still gets Windows 8.1 updates tell  2023  or the lifetime of the system and then if i want to use Windows 10 it can get updates tell they decide it doesn't . The problem being they will never be new devices shipped  with Huawei  or is Huawei planing make any  new ones with Windows 10 in the USA unless they unban Huawei  . Of course they have to support it there still selling the ones they have in stock in Microsoft store but only  because the U.S. Department of Commerce' said they could, so that was the only reason  they put them back in stock,. It shows Microsoft software and company is controlled by the USA Government.

What about  the people who bought certain Systems  with windows  8.1 and Microsoft ban there systems from upgrading to newer version of Windows 10 and they riped them of 2 years of updates?  It's not the Government you have to worry about with old stuff  its Big Tech . Microsoft could sell all the Huawei devices in stock  and block you if they wanted too and make up some fake technical  reason for doing it. anything they put in writing can  be rewrote and updated . Every new version of Windows they ban more old chips  if you don't  buy every so often your number is going to get called . That's if they don't make some new OS soon that want run on old hardware (last time it happen was when they made Vista) and they end windows 10 updates in 2025 witch ever comes 1st, There is no such thing as a iron clad contract with Microsoft .

Open Source OS are not controlled by the USA Government at all  and  they have distros outside of the USA , People still have PCs from the early 2000s with new Linux Distros on them to the newest PCs Huawei will ever make even if only made in China will run Linux .

Updates for old stuff  is a not problem at all

Google has confirmed that its Google Play app store will continue to function for existing Huawei device users.

Google’s full compliance with the US order could mean that future Huawei devices will lose access to Google services including the Google Play app store, as well as popular apps such as Gmail and YouTube.

The fact is if  China  and USA to don't  come to some sort of agreement  and lift the ban before  it takes effect on August 19 . 2019.. M$ and Google want be able to give Huawei a license  to use there software and services for new devices . the old license for old stuff , It is still updateble.

This not  the 1st company the USA  done like this from China  before it was ZTE  and it ruined ZTE.
