The AchieVer
Get Ready for a New Set of Windows 10 Cumulative Updates Microsoft is about to begin the rollout of new Windows 10 cumulative updates as part of the monthly Patch Tuesday cycle. As it happens during every Patch Tuesday release, all Windows 10 versions are expected to get cumulative updates, albeit it’s worth knowing that for consumers (Home and Pro SKUs) only the April 2018 Update and newer are still getting patches. If you’re still running an older version of Windows 10, like the Creators Update or the Fall Creators Update, you need to update your device. These versions are serviced only for Enterprise and Education SKUs or for devices enrolled in the LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel). One notable addition to the list of Windows 10 versions getting cumulative updates on Patch Tuesday is the May 2019 Update. Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 May 2019 Update, or version 1903, to users last month. The release takes place in stages, so only a limited number of devices are getting the update on Windows Update. However, starting in early June, all users can manually download Windows 10 May 2019 Update by simply checking for updates in Windows Update.Security patchesThe cumulative updates rolling out later today will address both security and non-security bugs, but the highlight this time will obviously be vulnerabilities in Microsoft software, including in Windows 10 and the built-in components. Windows 7 and 8.1 users will also receive monthly rollups today with security and non-security improvements, as well as security-only updates. Windows 7 is projected to reach the end-of-support in January 2020, and users are recommended to at least begin planning the upgrade to a newer version of Windows. As we do every month, we’ll monitor the Patch Tuesday rollout and let you know should any issues be experienced with Windows updates. Needless to say, users are recommended to create backups before installing this month’s cumulative updates. Source
