Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4497935 Installing Two or Three Times for Some

New cumulative updates are expected next week

The most recent cumulative update released by Microsoft for Windows 10 May 2019 Update, or version 1903, installs twice or even three times for some users.

Posts on reddit (via TechDows) reveal that update KB4497935 is being offered repeatedly to some devices, and despite the first installation apparently successful, the Windows Update service then requires a second reboot to complete the update.

Basically, KB4497935 appears to install correctly, but after the reboot the same update shows up once again in Windows Update.

On some devices, the behavior is repeated after the second reboot and seemingly successful installation, with KB4497935 showing up for the third time in Windows Update.

“Same here, however it finally went away after the 3rd time installing, I wonder if parts of the cumulative update are failing so eventually it goes through after multiple tries. In the Update History I see the Cumulative Update and Cumulative Update (2) now,” one user who posted in the linked thread explains.Similar issues hitting October updateA similar issue happened on Windows 10 October 2018 Update, or version 1809, after Microsoft released cumulative update KB4494441. Microsoft confirmed in late May that some users were prompted to download updates and restart devices several times, and the update history page displayed KB4494441 as installed correctly.

“No action is required on your part. The update installation may take longer and may require more than one restart, but will install successfully after all intermediate installation steps have completed. We are working on improving this update experience to ensure the Update history correctly reflects the installation of the latest cumulative update (LCU),” Microsoft explained.

The company hasn’t yet acknowledged issues with cumulative update KB4497935, so it remains to be seen if there’s anything to be fixed on this front in the latest patch for version 1903.

The next cumulative updates for Windows 10 May 2019 Update are projected to go live on the June 2019 Patch Tuesday due on June 11.

KB4997935 won't install at all for me. I've tried several times. Not a big deal. It seems I had the same problem with this during the preview on the slow ring.
