Chromium Microsoft Edge Gets a New Option to Close the Browser 

 

Microsoft has released a new update for the Canary version of its new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, bringing the browser to version 76.0.162.0.

 

There’s one noticeable change in this update, as per HTNovo: the application now includes a new option in the main menu that allows you to close the browser.

Just like any other Windows application, the new Chromium-powered Microsoft Edge allows you to close the app by simply clicking the X button in the top right corner or by pressing Alt + F4 on the keyboard.

However, it looks like the software giant wants to provide users with another alternative to these methods, as this latest update allows you to close the browser by expanding the main menu and hitting the new option called “Close Microsoft Edge.”

 

Currently a Canary exclusive

 

A similar feature also exists in Google Chrome, and you can close the app by clicking the main menu and then the “Exit” option. Microsoft Edge an,d Google Chrome are now related, as they are both based on the Chromium engine, so there are several similarities between the two.

Keep in mind that this feature is currently part of the Canary build on Windows 10, but it’s very likely to make it to the Dev version later this week. These are the only official builds of the Microsoft Edge browser, as Microsoft keeps working on the macOS sibling and the version aimed at previous Windows releases.

The Chromium engine allows Microsoft to bring the new Edge browser to more than just Windows 10, so the app will be offered cross-platform. A Linux version could also land at some point in the future.
