The AchieVer
Microsoft Releases Windows 10 Cumulative Updates KB4493509, KB4493464, KB4493441 Microsoft has just released a new batch of cumulative updates for Windows 10 devices as part of the April 2019 Patch Tuesday cycle. As it happens every month, these updates include both security and non-security features, and because vulnerabilities in the operating system are resolved, you are recommended to install them as soon as possible. The April 2019 cumulative updates for Windows 10 are the following: KB4493509 – Windows 10 version 1809 KB4493464 – Windows 10 version 1803 KB4493441 – Windows 10 version 1709 KB4493474 – Windows 10 version 1703 KB4493470 – Windows 10 version 1607 KB4493475 – Windows 10 RTM (original version)Version 1709 also being retiredAs said, these updates include several security patches, so Microsoft shipped fixes for its two browsers, Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer, but also for other OS components like the Windows kernel and the Windows Graphics engine. What’s very important to know is that this is the last Patch Tuesday update cycle for Windows 10 version 1709, also referred to as the Fall Creators Update. The Home and Pro SKUs are being retired today, so going forward, Microsoft will only release security updates to devices running Windows 10 version 1709 Enterprise and Education. This means that if you’re still on the Fall Creators Update and not running these two SKUs, you should upgrade to a newer release as soon as possible. Additionally, the Anniversary Update, also known as Windows 10 version 1607, is reaching the end of support for Enterprise and Education as well. At this point, it’s too early to tell if these updates install correctly or not, but we’ll continue to monitor the main feedback channels, as we do every month, and report back should any issue be reported. In the last few months, however, the update reliability has been substantially improved. Source
The AchieVer
Cumulative Update KB4493464 Now Available for Windows 10 Version 1803 Microsoft has just started the April 2019 Patch Tuesday rollout, and naturally, Windows 10 is one of the products getting updates. Windows 10 version 1803, or April 2018 Update, is being provided with cumulative update KB4493464, and users can download it from Windows Update right now. KB4493464 bumps the OS build number to 17134.706, and it includes a bunch of improvements that you can check out in full in the changelog below. But the most important, however, are the security fixes that this update includes, as it comes with patches not only for the OS, but also for some pre-installed apps, like Microsoft’s browsers. One of the non-security highlights is aimed at users running the Windows Subsystem for Linux on their devices. “Addresses a stop error that occurs when attempting to start the Secure Shell (SSH) client program from Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) with agent forwarding enabled using a command line switch (ssh –A) or a configuration setting,” Microsoft says.Windows 10 version 1803 next to be retiredThe April 2019 Patch Tuesday is the last one for Windows 10 version 1709 (Fall Creators Update) for consumers, which means that devices running Home or Pro SKUs will no longer receive security updates. At the same time, with this milestone officially reached, it means the April 2018 Update, or version 1803, is the next in line to be retired, and as per Microsoft’s schedule, this is projected to happen in November this year. At this point, this is quite worrying for everyone, as the April update continues to be the most popular Windows 10 version on the market. The October 2018 Update failed to gain traction, but the good news is that a new release called May 2019 Update is just around the corner. Its rollout should kick off in late May, but it remains to be seen if it has what it takes to convince everyone to upgrade. Source
