The rumor was true, Halo developer 343 Industries has been secretly working on a PC version of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and the anthology will be released on the Windows 10 Microsoft Store and Steam later this year. That’s pretty great news for PC gamers, as the last Halo game to be released on PC was Halo 2 back in 2007.

Halo: MCC on PC will include the same content as the Xbox One game, but 343 Industries’ Brian Jarrard said today that the games will actually roll out one by one. Another great news that Jarrard announced today is that Halo: Reach, Bungie’s latest Halo game released back in 2010 on the Xbox 360 will soon be added to Halo: MCC on Xbox One and PC. On Xbox One, the multiplayer content will be free for everyone who owns Halo: MCC, but the campaign and Firefight modes will be available as a paid DLCs (all content will be available for free for Xbox Game Pass subscribers).  This will be different on PC as Halo Reach will actually be the first game to be released on this platform, and the PC version will include all game content.

The Master Chief’s arrival on PC will happen in stages with each title releasing one by one over time -– giving the development teams the ability to ensure each one is right, while giving players a chance to jump in right away, rather than having to wait for the entire suite of games to be completed. Our current plan is for this journey to begin with the launch of Halo: Reach – the fictional beginnings of Master Chief’s saga – with the rest of the titles following in chronological order thereafter. Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST (Campaign), and Halo 4 will each be available for individual purchase within MCC as they become available. And each game will evolve and grow over time with community input.

Jarrard said today that Halo: MCC will be released on PC later this year, but didn’t share an ETA. We also don’t know if the Microsoft Store version will support Xbox Play Anywhere and cross-platform multiplayer between Windows 10 and Xbox One, but 343 Industries will likely share more details in the coming months.
