The new chipset is the upgraded version of the company’s existing chipset Snapdragon 8cx. Qualcomm had launched the new Snapdragon 8cx back in December 2018 which is a mobile PC chipset especially made from scratch for Windows 10 PCs. The chipset comes with an Adreno 680 GPU, a Kryo 495 CPU, Wi-Fi support, a Snapdragon X24 LTE modem, and the Spectra 390 ISP. The new chipset, Snapdragon 8cx 5G will be the first chipset to come with Snapdragon X55 5G modem offering speeds up to 7Gbps. The company is expected to release the new chipset later this year and Qualcomm’s partners would be the first to take advantage of the release. The company says that 5G is expected to provide faster speeds allowing users to store and access files on the cloud at a higher bandwidth with lower latency. The usage of 5G is expected to bring a balance between the speeds of the wireless network with the performance of local processors. It’s a known fact the Microsoft and Qualcomm share a very good partnership and with the release of the 8cx 5G chipset, it is expected to make Windows 10 PCs more worthy than the rivals. Lenovo, on the other hand, has already announced that it will be using Qualcomm’s latest chipset in its next 5G ready laptop which is expected to arrive in early 2020. Qualcomm has claimed that its Snapdragon 8cx is expected to be up to 60 percent more efficient than the Snapdragon 850 by improving the battery life of the laptops.
