Microsoft has released the second update of the week for Windows insiders in the Fast ring, as the company advances towards the final development stages of Windows 10 version 1903 at full speed.

Windows 10 build 18343 is the latest preview build for insiders, and the most important change that it brings is a fix for the block that prevented some devices from getting updates.

“We fixed the Connected Standby issue that resulted in us blocking PCs with Intel64 Family 6 Model 142 and Intel64 Family 6 Model 158 processor model. If your PC was unable to take Build 18342 from earlier this week due to having one of these processor models, you should be able to take this flight!” Microsoft explains in the release notes.

There’s a second fix as well, and this addresses a bug that required an additional reboot when performing a PC reset with Reserved Storage enabled.

There are obviously several known issues in this build, as it’s the case of all previews, and you can find them in full in the box after the jump.

Windows 10 April 2019 Update

Needless to say, there are no new features in this update, and it’s all because we’re getting closer to the moment Microsoft signs off the RTM build of the April 2019 Update.

Also referred to as version 1903 or 19H1, Windows 10 April 2019 is projected to be finalized in March. Insiders will be the first ones to get the RTM builds, while the rollout to production devices across the world will kick off in April.

Just like before, the launch will take place in stages in order to prevent issues from becoming more widespread, but Microsoft will probably provide a manual download option as well for users who don’t want to wait for the automatic release.

General changes, improvements, and fixes for PC:

  • We fixed the Connected Standby issue that resulted in us blocking PCs with Intel64 Family 6 Model 142 and Intel64 Family 6 Model 158 processor model. If your PC was unable to take Build 18342 from earlier this week due to having one of these processor models, you should be able to take this flight!
  • We fixed the issue that required an additional reboot when performing Reset this PC and selecting Keep my files on a device that has Reserved Storage enabled.

Known issues:

  • Launching games that use anti-cheat software may trigger a bugcheck (GSOD).
  • Creative X-Fi sound cards are not functioning properly. We are partnering with Creative to resolve this issue.
  • We’re continuing to investigate reported issues in the night light space.
  • Some Realtek SD card readers are not functioning properly. We are investigating the issue.
  • In Windows Sandbox, if you try to navigate to the Narrator settings, Settings app crashes.
  • Mouse pointer color might be incorrectly switched to white after signing out and signing back in.
  • We’re investigating reports of the Chinese version of multiple games not working.

Known issues for Developers:

  • If you install any of the recent builds from the Fast ring and switch to the Slow ring – optional content such as enabling developer mode will fail. You will have to remain in the Fast ring to add/install/enable optional content. This is because optional content will only install on builds approved for specific rings.
