xhartom
A LEADING roboticist believes that humans are just a few decades away from marrying droids. Dr David Hanson, who famously created the eerily lifelike Sophia robot, has revealed his vision for the future of androids in a new research paper. Humans are already making love to sex robots in 2018. But Dr Hanson believes that humans will soon be able to marry their amorous androids, too. According to the robotics expert, androids will get the same civil rights as humans by the year 2045. That includes the "right to marry, own land and vote in general elections". Dr Hanson's latest paper is titled Entering The Age Of Living Intelligent Systems and Android Society, and was released in collaboration with PlayStation for the upcoming Detroit: Become Human game. The sci-fi game follows androids struggling with their sentience in a human world. It might sound like a wacky concept, but Dr Hanson says we're not far off from that sort of future. He expects robots to surpass "nearly everything that humans can do" by 2035. And by 2038, they'll rise up and start what Dr hanson calls the "Global Robotic Civil Rights Movement". But he warns that humans will still try to treat robots like second-class citizens, even if they're as intelligent as us. "Lawmakers and corporations in the near future will attempt legal and ethical suppression of machine emotional maturity, so that people can feel safe. "Meanwhile artificial intelligence won't hold still. "As people's demands for more generally intelligent machines push the complexity of AI forward, there will come a tipping point where robots will awaken and insist on their rights to exist, to live free." Mutton
Methinks Dr Hanson is an attention seeker. I've been around long enough to remember the promises of us all having flying cars, living in cloud cities, and having three-day working weeks. The due date for that is long passed. Even most science fiction films are way passed their due date (Anyone seen a Terminator yet?) I'll be long in my grave before the AI self-aware revolution. If it ever comes... are we that stupid as to allow it in the first place?
