RARBG Adds .EXE Files to Torrents, But No Need to Panic

During the past few days, RARBG began adding what first appear to be .exe files to their torrents. Considering that these executables are often linked to malware, some people are beginning to panic. Regular users, however, have nothing to fear. These do not contain a virus.

After more than ten years in the game, RARBG is one of the most popular and resilient torrent sites on the Internet today.

The site took fourth spot in our 2019 list of most popular torrent sites, a position that has been earned through regular high-quality releases of everything from movies and TV shows through to music, games and adult content.

During the past few days, however, the site took a somewhat unusual step that has had some users scratching their heads. A quick look inside some new video torrents released by the site reveals not only the content itself, but also an initially mysterious file called ‘ RARBG_DO_NOT_MIRROR.exe’.

The presence of an .exe file often raises alarm bells

As a general rule, when video torrents contain an .exe file there is a need for caution. These executables can contain anything and in some cases may be malicious, such as a virus or malware. As a result, experienced torrent users never click them but the same can’t be said about novices.

In this instance, however, there is nothing for regular users to be worried about. Renaming the file to give it a .txt extension reveals that this is just a text file that displays the following information:

“This is not an .exe file. This is just a placeholder to prevent mirroring over other public sites.”

So if it’s just a text file, why would RARBG include it in their torrents? The explanation, it turns out, is pretty straightforward and not directed at users at all.

While the site makes thousands of releases every week, these are easily mirrored on other platforms. Since .exe files are viewed with suspicion by tools used to automate the crawling of the site (most sites don’t allow .exe files to be uploaded in video categories), their inclusion means less diffusion of RARBG torrents to other platforms.

“[The .exe file] is included in torrent files to stop distribution to other public sites,” RARBG confirms in a new addition to its FAQ.

Interestingly, the “.exe” experiment is also having a positive effect on the health of torrents tracked by RARBG. According to the site’s operator, the inclusion of the .exe file in torrents “reduces the average hit&run [people who grab a torrent and then fail to seed] by 35% !”

As mentioned earlier, there is nothing malicious with the .exe file as far as users are concerned and, as the site points out, people can easily ‘untick’ the file in their torrent client and it won’t even be downloaded.

That being said, their presence won’t be welcomed by people looking to mirror RARBG torrents elsewhere. Since the traffic to such platforms could be negatively affected following the rejection of torrents containing an .exe, the job of their operators becomes much more difficult.

Finally, it’s worth reiterating that real .exe files in any torrent – or indeed anywhere on the Internet – should always be approached with caution.

Running these kinds of files without due diligence can be a risky proposition so the default actions should always be to run up-to-date anti-virus/anti-malware software and/or ignore and delete unexpected content, just to be on the safe side.

I use a paid leecher  and just uncheck the exe file  and txt files i don't want there garbage .Rarbg is a strange site they steal everything from other private and public sites and re tag it to FGT or STUTTERSHIT  , before they use to retag it all to Rarbg  but there is no groups just tags the whole system is automated and they use bots in the cloud like i do ,What they don't re-tag they mirror it from other private sites like IPT  and  this don't stop the websites that use filehost from mirroring there stuff   its all done in the cloud they download it  to a server and remote it out on to filehost without the trash. This is not the 1st time they used exe files in there uploads they done it before and stopped for awhile .So they just up to there old routine , freaking   garbage tracker who steals but don't want no one mirroring there stolen stuff.

Edit: Also i use Linux when downloading torrents I have no wine installed   .exe  files will not run  on linux without Wine  or a VM with Windows. When I  download warez i boot into windows  and i only download  programs from people and sites i trust  on filehost or ftp . i never use torrents to download software  since like 2008 when i downloaded a infected keygen from  p2p i learned  my lesson about apps from p2p long ago. 🤣

Its always been away to get files without having access to private sites , Sites like them that steal caused other public sites to close  because they rob them just like playnow shutdown witch had exclusive Apple releases and they complained about RARBG  a lot before they quit posting,  everything Playnow  released was better than what RARBG does as far as re-encodes   . Also all the filehost blogs  mirror there  crap instead going to private sites and getting it anymore  and causing there sites to not be as  good as they  once were . ..If RARBG was to   get shutdown some other torrent site was just take its place . no body  even much went to there site or even posted there releases tell PHD shut down and came back and went private .

When PHD closed down the HD nuts migrated over there . but if you go to the  HD forums they don't even be posting RARBG.  Before RARBG  became a thing stuff was still around,  it just had the actual real tag instead of a fake one , RARBG  don't even give any credits   . They  retag the real scene's and private p2p pure bluray   and remux and retag it again  and re-encode from non pure sources even though they get them all the time  every bit of it is done by remote re-encodeing  , remuxieng ,retagging is all done by AI. I can go download  Non RARBG  releases Pure BLURAY  all daylong any never touch a torrent or magnet  just by using filehost  so you cant tell me if they went under they would not be replaced.

Got your point. Re-encoding, remuxing, retagging instead of giving credit to the source is not the best way. And causing other sites to close down is obviously not the goal. On the other hand, access to private sites is sometimes not possible and the ratio system made/makes it hard to keep for those not having top speed connections.

I never understood why someone with slow speeds would bother to download pure blu-ray no  way unless there re-encoding it down  or burning it to BLU-Ray Disk .   I hang around on x265  sites and download 1080p and 720p x265 and I only download x264 if I can't find it in my preferred  quality , I find  it on both torrent sites and blogs . If you do x264  a 1080p  scene release witch is  8-10 gb you can find anywhere  looks good enough anyway why do you want to waste all that time to download 30 gbs if you have slow speeds?.  I can't stand there site they dont have x265 re-encode releases that i find on  just about every other torrent site, witch is better for me personally.  The problem with there  site they want  let other encode groups upload on there site and there pubic p2p  if you don't want no one to mirror your stuff and act like a private site  you go private and still people will mirror it like RARBG does .  RARBG i don't have to visit there site i can just use a DHT  search engine or kodi and pull there releases in  there public and there  a cancer to the torrent scene. There semi private anyway no one can join there site  its all AI Bots its like a  Filehost blog with torrents.. :lmao:

The trick they use  when they  get a dmca  they take down the files witch you can still download it   on all the  blogs that mirror there  stuff , then  they wait so many days and  reupload another  old  not pure release 1080p scene or retagged  of and old release  and there AI  bots will re-encode it to 720p  ,1080p x264  and XviD SD over and over they release the same crap a 100 times .. some  filehost blogs that mirror there stuff  will have multiple releases  by them of the same quality  . Nothing on there site stays very long  it goes down as faster than using filehost.  :P

The Private tracker MTeam most of time  gets pure  BLU-Ray before  most of the other sites and the real scene do . Sometimes  HDChina  ,CHDbits , HDArea  or ,TTG  will get it 1st if none of these sites get it 1st  then the scene  always release it as well ,  just as much of it comes from private sites as does from the scene now. Years ago  like 2001 people downloaded video cds . That's why the scene released everything in XViD  1 Video CD and 2 Video CD  size rips .. That was when I didn't bother with downloading videos. because i still had dial-up it took all night to download  just 1 music album . The pirating i done back then was better than anything  that was on the internet  at the time..  I went to a DVD rental  shop and brought Movies home and  programs to remove DRM were free back then,  all  I had to  buy  back then was a  DVDBurner,  1 Click DVD  software and blank DVDs  .So I burned  my movies  Full DVD to Full blank DVD over 4 GB when people on  the internet were downloading 700 mb CD size Quality.  The first Blu-ray Disc titles were released on June 20, 2006 . So of course years ago it were not around it didn't  even exist yet .

as for me rarbg is far more usefull than the defunct tpb that always says get back in 15 minutes.

You can access TPB  with TOR Browser  even when the https site is down. The thing TPB has going for it  , they have releases the other sites don't have and they don't follow DMCA  long after RARBG removes the files because of a DMCA  and you have to wait so long tell they upload it again, it will still  be up at TPB.

You cant call it stealing when you steal from someone that steals.  And to mention ipt that was made only for donations is the worst comparation. 😏

They steal, they steal, but at least they have speed bandwitch and seeeders, screenshots, tags, links, format alternatives for movies. Its at a private tracker standard.

Spoiler

make a comparation here for your own curiosity
