Administrator DKT27 Posted November 23, 2009 Administrator Share Posted November 23, 2009 @Lohengrin: Thanx for the info. So both dual channel and tri channel RAM are different in looks or the things inside it?
Bizarre™
@DKT27:The architecture inside would definitely be different.
Administrator DKT27 Posted November 23, 2009 Administrator Share Posted November 23, 2009 OK. So I have to specifically buy a dual channel RAM?
Bizarre™
@DKT27:It depends upon what your PC supports.Try looking at the manual.
RadioActive
@Lohengrin: Thanx for the info. So both dual channel and tri channel RAM are different in looks or the things inside it?AFAIK the difference isn't in the RAM itself but rather in the motherboard (or memory controller?).Anways, in very simple and basic terms, in tri-channel you'll need to install 3 sets of RAM modules/pieces (ex: 1GB + 1GB + 1GB) while in dual-channel you only need 2 sets (ex: 2GB + 2GB).Now, some manufacturers release special RAM bundles/kits specifically for dual or tri channel but those will be explicitly labeled as such and of course will follow the same rule 3 pieces for tri and 2 for dual. Well I wanna buy just one 2GB RAM stick so it will only be single channel right? :unsure:Yes, which is not a good idea, get 2x 1GB (or 2x 2GB of course) sticks, should deliver better performance (assuming dual channel). RadioActive
is intel REALLY better than amd i mean in realtime tests side by side? That statement/question is meaningless, you can't compare two organizations, you can only compare two specific products, so pick which processors you want to compare.
