Windows 10 update

WINDOWS 10 could be set for a radical update that could give fans of the Microsoft operating system a very tough choice to make.

Windows 10 is Microsoft's operating system that is hugely-popular and regularly updated.

In fact, the software was recently overhauled as part of the American tech giant's October 2018 Update that introduced a swathe of new functionality.

One of the biggest new features to arrive in the latest and greatest software was a revamped clipboard system that harnessed the power of cloud computing to make copying and pasting across multiple devices easier than ever before.

Moreover, the October 2018 Update also introduced a new dark mode for Windows 10 apps.

Dark themes have become increasingly prominent recently with Apple's macOS Mojave also flaunting such an aesthetic.

One of Windows 10's best features has been its ability to summon Microsoft's virtual assistant, Cortana, in order to perform a manner of tasks and answer questions.

Cortana is integrated into the Windows 10 platform, meaning the helper can be summoned just by talking to your computer.

Such methods of accessibility are currently not present with other virtual assistants such as Amazon's Alexa.

Instead, other assistants present higher barriers to entry for users; meaning button combinations need to be pressed or certain applications need to be opened in order to take advantage of them.

However, it appears this could be set to change in a new version of Windows 10 that could offer greater levels of integration for third-party helpers.

Twitter user Albacore recently posted an image of a Windows 10 test release that indicates Microsoft could soon allow other assistants to be employed just by uttering a command.

Moreover, Albacore insisted Microsoft could soon let users replace Cortana with another virtual assistant entirely.

They tweeted: "It looks like Microsoft will let people replace Cortana in the taskbar with another assistant of their choice."

In response, another Twitter user and prominent leaker WalkingCat replied and stated internal APIs in Windows 10 refer to Cortana being replaced, suggesting such functionality could be incoming.

WalkingCat said: "There are some internal APIs about 'IsSystemCortanaAppReplaceable'/'IsSystemCortanaAppReplaced' in the Cortana app, maybe related."

Amazon released its Alexa app on the Microsoft Store last month that allows Windows 10 fans to make use of its helper.

At the time, the tech giant declared: "The convenience of Alexa, now on your PC.

"With Alexa on your PC you can simplify your life and use your voice to get more done.

"Just tap and ask Alexa to check your calendar, create lists, play music, answer questions, read the news and more.

"Alexa on your PC even makes it easy to control your smart home from anywhere just by using your voice.

"Whether you’re at home or on the go, Alexa is designed to make your life easier."

Although the closer integration of third party assistants on the Microsoft operating system has been rumoured, nothing has been officially confirmed by the American tech company.
