nir
In October, the Linux kernel project adopted a new Code of Conduct with the aim of enforcing more inclusive language; while it did have plenty of supporters, it also had detractors who were not keen on the idea at all. Today, Jarkko Sakkinen from Intel began putting the Code of Conduct into practice against several code comments, replacing the F-word with 'hug'. Following the change, several contributors responded to the alterations calling them insane, one wondered if Sakkinen was just trying to make a joke, and another called it censorship and said he’d refuse to apply any sort of patches like this to the code he's in charge of. Another contributor said they didn’t mind the change but that some of the sentences were now difficult to understand, this was echoed by a Dutch contributor who said the replacements were confusing for non-native English speakers. Some of the post-change comments read “Some Athlon laptops have really hugged PST tables”, “If you don’t see why, please stay the hug away from my code”, and “Only Sun can take such nice parts and hug up the programming interface”. While these changes may not seem quite as dystopian as some imagined, it’s not very good practice to make the comments confusing. Anyone who has taken a lesson in programming can tell you that it’s very important to leave enough understandable comments throughout the code so that contributors in future can understand what the code does before they make changes. steven36
This not really not about software its about the politics of the Linux Foundation because so much so they ban these type topics from the Linux Sub on reddit months ago because it caused massive fights with people who don't even use Linux who just wanted to troll Linus for having a potty mouth , witch he went and got behavior management therapy for by the way .. While Linux would not be possible without the Linux Kernel its just a small part , It would of never been possible without open source and the free software foundation volunteers as well there the biggest part of it and they don't have no code of conduit and still don't use words like hug . The community is much bigger than those bunch of tossers that takes donations from big tech and have to be politically correct and change there whole way they post emails to suck up, so they will keep getting them. People were so mad over this that they were threatening to fork the Linux Kernel. When you dictate what a person says they become shallow and they say stuff they don't even mean. You can change the way they write emails but that still don't change the person in real life that just puts on a fake face on at work, witch 90% of people at work are just being fake people already. I had bosses like Linus in the past that had to go behavior management class but he still wanted to cuss us out and you could tell , only thing changed was he didn't so he could keep his job. Linux became successful for selfish reasons it's selfish software it was around long before big tech donated because everyone pitched in and did it /do it for there own selfish reasons not about profit . Now IBM , Microsoft ,Google and others came along and use it for there selfish reasons to get rich. it was not tell a few years back they changed it were you had to donate a certain amount to have a vote at the Linux Foundation. . Only reason Big Tech has a vote they pay a lot for it and they will keep paying if they want a vote on how it's ran.. if they stop donating they will just have let the community be part of it again . We don't need them it's the Big Wigs at linux that need them, we can just get rid of the ones who are just management and don't write code .
